The Ford spec sheet calls it a fully synthetic GL-4 75W-90, with a viscosity at 100°C of 15.4 cSt. This puts it into approximately the same range as the full-synth 75W-90 gear oils from most other major manufacturers at the upper end of the operating temp range.

At 40°, the Ford stuff scores a 76 cSt viscosity, whereas most competing oils are in the 90-100 cSt range. This is confirmed by a higher stated viscosity index of 211 (ASTM D-2270), as compared to typically 160 or so for most other oils I'm looking at. So it should be about 30% thinner when cold.

For comparison, "most" other oils I'm looking at includes Valvoline SynPower 75W-90, Amsoil GL-4 75W-90, Mobil1 synthetic 75W-90 and Redline MT90. (The Redline comes closest to the Ford's low-temp viscosity, with a 90 cSt at 40°, but it's still a far cry.)

It also smells like strawberries*.

Should have written "tastes", without the disclaimer. If you were evil.

I keep telling people that putting Amsoil Dominator in their coffee keep them regular. I imagine it will make you violently ill, but I'm not going to find out :barf:

Speaking from first-hand experience, if one is assembling a VW engine in a barn in Florida, one should not place a styrofoam cup of Dr. Pepper on the workbench immediately next to an identical styrofoam cup of motor oil.

That having been said, 10W-30 is in fact a powerful laxative.

Very interesting specs. Looks really great. I may have to give this a try over MT-85 next year. Love that 211 VI.

One presumes that the difference in low-temperature viscosity between Ford Unicorn Tears and every other GL-4 75W-90 is even more pronounced at extremely low temperatures, such as 0°C, than at the lowest published temperature of 40°C.

It's amazing stuff. I can't see myself using any other transmission oil in the foreseeable future.
