Default One corner compressing the spring almost to bind?

Friend's car. It has sat a little low on the front passenger side since he got it. Somewhere in the past it hit a curb. He replaced the upper control arm. Lower control arm looks fine, but that doesn't mean it is.

He recently put a new set of coil overs in (some brand I never hear of). He had to run the preload all the way up on the passenger side and it is still a little low. Now, the part I am stumped by, is that the spring on that side is almost in bind just sitting there (the pre-load setting is not the cause, it extends almost too being loose with the car jacked up). How is there so much more load on the passenger side that the spring is compressed and the driver side isn't? I don't understand how thag could be the case since the load should be approximatly the same side to side.

If it weren't for the spring being compressed all the way when sitting, I would say beny lower control arm and just have him change it.

Any ideas what is going on? I am stumped.
