While waiting eagerly for the deep dive; do you guys have any damping curves that you could share?

Sorry, no. Fun to nerd out on but only a handful of folks out there know how to interpret the data. Many will misinterpret. Surprisingly, it causes more problems than it solves for us.

If you have any specific questions about the damping or comparisons, fire away.

We gave away a set of Tecnas on an instagram promo this week. The lucky (and stoked) winner Jacob Watterson. Congrats Jake!

If you're wondering why you didn't know about the promo.. it's because you don't follow us on the 'gram

For every 1 potential Miata owner we reach on this forum, we reach 100 on Instagram. That said, we have been a sponsor of this forum since 2005, created its most active sub forum, contributed key content and generally supported it in every possible way. That is not going to change.

Like you, I rue the short attention span and lack of archivable information on social media these days. But that is the world we live in. We must adapt or die.

Thanks for the reply Emilio. I'm very glad to hear your commitment to this site, I have learned a great deal from you (and others) here, and I'd like to think that it and its like will be able to offer that into the future.

I completely take your point about the changes we are seeing and the need to respond as a commercial enterprise to those changes. I guess my point was that offering on ig was not replicated/extended to here, thereby actively encouraging MT.net users to migrate, or prioritise ig over this site. I can't see a commercial rationale for that (but you might have one), so I hope that next time we might hear about it, or hopefully be included. Thats all.

The Instagram promotion was about reaching people who are on Instagram and will never be on any forum. I'm guessing you would not be bothered if we ran a print ad in Grassroots Motorsports or a Youtube ad, or a radio ad.

If you feel like we we unfairly denied the opportunity to people on this forum, you have to realize that everyone on this forum already knows we exist. Everyone on every Miata forum worldwide already knows we exist.

Our particular brand story is very race and motorsports oriented. But that's just the tip of the iceberg in the Miataverse. To survive we need to reach people that are not here. And I'm guessing that you would very much like for us to survive

We are not abandoning you, we are simply growing.

As customers get their shocks and write stuff, we'll compile it and add it to our Tecna reviews page: https://949racing.com/supermiata/tecna-reviews/

Arrived this morning, thank you! Unfortunately I promised the wife I would finish my schedule C before I play with my toy car. Hopefully I will be able to try them out for the next race on the 19th, and give some feedback.

Curious to hear from the more experienced, but would there be benefit for someone who doesn't particularly see much track time, but does spend a ton of time cruising backroads to swap over to a set of these from a set of adjustable BC coilovers? Ive been considering xidas, but given I don't track the car, and don't particularly want to deal with the maintenance of them, it has been hard to justify the cost. It seems like thats the entire point of these. Just curious if I would notice an improvement over the BC coilovers?

In short, yes.

Hey, that’s me

But in all seriousness, these coilovers are wonderful. I don’t have a lot to compare them to in regards to ownership, but they’re the most comfortable coilovers I’ve ever rode on in a Miata (including other peoples’ cars, not just my own). I’ve noticed they handle and ride wonderfully compared to the Tein Street Basis Z coilovers I had before. I’d highly recommend them for street/dual purpose coilovers.

Your situation/use case is exactly why we did these. Lots of people in your shoes buy Xidas and just deal with the occasional maintenance, but we know there are tons of people out there who just want something that rides awesome, handles great, affordably priced, and you don't have to mess with it. Up until now the closest you could get to that was with DIY Billies - all the other options just don't have the stroke to properly dispatch big bumps on street. That's why we obsessed over the details of maximizing stroke, using a really long spring pack for a wide ride height adjustment range, careful valving, etc. Frankly for your use case, these are a better fit than Xidas.

Mine just arrived! I will be looking forward to trying these on the car and seeing how they do. I am one of those people who just bit the bullet and bought Xidas (back in 2016, after waiting for a while for the techna to come out...). Had to have them rebuilt recently (don't put 30k street miles on your Xida folks, four new bodies and two rear shafts were not cheap.) and never got around to putting them back on since it was winter. Have DIY bilstiens on the car at the moment. It will be interesting to see the difference, tbh, I am not a fan of the bilstiens(they are spec miata take offs though), they actually ride harsher than the Xida and get unsettled over big bumps in corners, and that's with 325/225 spring rates. I never felt the Xida get out of sorts even once.

So I will be going from 700/400 Xida > 325/225 SM Bilstiens > Techna.

I should be able to get them on this week.

Having looked at shock dynos of Bilsteins it's zero surprise to hear you say they get unsettled and ride harshly. At high piston speeds the damping gets ridiculous. This is why they suffer on braking bumps too - they pack down. It is also why they can "handle" high spring rates, because they have so much damn rebound damping.
