Also there is a 1200 swap.
Buy a T5. Cut out a plate, cut out another plate. Cut out 2 pieces of pipe and weld.
Or a t2 trans and weld your BP bellhousing onto the T2 bellhousing.

I'm very jealous of all your rust-free NAs.
Edit: Hmm maybe I should have kept that info to myself. If anyone needs a T5, I'll sell you one for $1000.

T5s pop up on craigslist all the time. I'm in a shitty car buying area and there are 7 available locally. The average asking price is $500.
That would be the beauty of this option, but you would have to be very careful of which version you're getting.
That being said, what does the hivemind say the most desirable T5 would be?
Everything I have experienced or read says that 90 and up world class T5s are the strongest.
I'm unsure whether some packages received stronger stuffs or not.

They do not.
I got lucky and found the one junk yard miata in two years in a 100 mile radius that wasn't vulture food... and it had a five speed.
Why wouldn't it be worth the effort if corky offered a kit with the parts he listed in post #72?
If he goes through with it, and I freely admit that's a big if, it should go like this; buy kit, bolt onto T5, bolt onto baller 1.8, pick up hella dudes.
If you break it, spend a few bucks and start over.

True enough about the fit. Strength is up for debate, although the cost benefit is definitely in the T5s corner.
I think that's a fairly small labor price to pay, but I like turning wrenches more than most.
Let's be real though, this is entirely conjecture until this actually comes to market, if it ever does.
