With my brace it should be about 115lbs. They advertise it as 115lb on the website but 95 or so on the manual.

I have no issues. Seat is bolted to the floor.
|
Your front downtubes are a little further forward than mine.....with front crossmember it does seem a little confined. Once I'm harnessed in, it is fine.
I had to get a bigger rearview mirror though. ;) I like your downtube config. because it lessens the chance of breaking an ankle and doesn't cover the vent windows. |
Mike are you using side mount brackets or literally bolted straight to the floor? I think I am going to take the stock seat rails out and use a set of OMP side mount brackets that are laying around to mount the seat. Should give me more room.
Machismo I didn't realize you already had a cage in. Hard Dog? I need a new rear view as well, the eyebrow bar goes right over the old location. Oh and I didn't forget about those clips but the shop was bombed again by my friend painting a car last night so I didn't even take the cover off my car (which has the clips inside). |
Not a problem.... I know the drill. ;)
The cage is an older Autopower ( I think)....bolt in. But it will receive a PROPER cage one of these days. I've been thinking about just ordering the front half of HD's and retrofitting to the back half of Autopower and adding gussetts where need be. Door bars are an issue I would like to address as well. |
Straight to the floor.

Took out the stock rails tonight, PITA. I have to clearance the cat hump on the drivies side trans tunnel to fit the seat with the side mounts it appears. I didn't think fitting a seat would be so damn frustrating.
|
What happened to this? I'm looking at beding a cage for my car this weekend and I'm looking for ideas.
|
I had to take a few weeks off when we moved but I started working on it again last weekend. The front is all fitted just needs to be welded and the drivers door bar is half done. Should be done in a couple weeks since I was shorted a bar and have to get a new piece bent locally. I'll try to get some pics Friday.
|
I've got a pretty good idea, but was wondering how people were able to keep there latches.
|
The front latches? Not a chance, the bars will have to be pretty low. Side latches maybe with the low profile latches but you'll have to use a bracket on the front anyways.

Off topic, but wanted to update you on the window clips. They are awesome and perfect for this application. Driven with glass in and out, and road noise is no different.
I thought with the gutted door, it would drastically change the interior noise.....but no changes. Still just as loud as it was.... HA! Door sounds surprisingly solid upon closing too. I left the crash bar in the door, but with NASCAR bars eventually it will go bye bye. Now I just need to fab a matching pair for the PAX side, remove the dash, etc., etc. Cheers and thanks for the help and parts! |
So what are guys do for the latches. I have a hard top. Just interested, I think Dan has put a cage in a miata so he may already know.
|
Spec Miata latches are about your only option when caging the car. Everything is slim profile and bolts right up.

I had to gut a bunch more out of my door on Friday, and now I have to trim that intrusion bar which looks like fun.

Finished the drivers side tonight. I still have some smoothing to do on the door, eventually going to use rubber weatherstripping on the sharp edges. I had to remove the entire entrusion bar since I chose to mount the front low since the car will still see alot of street time. There is TONS of room when I have the seat in. More legroom than with the stock door, my knees don't even come close to the bar.

I haven't had much time to work on the car lately but I made some progress last night. Cage should be finished next weekend, just have to weld the passenger side and do the firewall tubes.
Also found a more convenient spot for my MS, no more reaching behind the seat. :) |
