Default RX8 ring and pinion

So I read on this website that the 4.44 ring and pinion from an rx8 fits the 94-97 miata. So I bought one and the ring gear is too big. Wrong gear from seller or wrong info?? Anybody try this? Please help a newb out...TIA

I think I remember that thread, and I'm pretty sure several people said it wouldn't fit in a NA/NB, but only possibly in a NC.

I've also read many many things saying it won't fit. It should fit the NC as Dustin said though.

I have a 4.44:1 gear. I got it from Mazda Motorsports a few years back. From a Kia maybe?

Considering all the torque of the turbos, that first gear is not of much use, and the fast cruise mode (west Texas), what final drive ratios do you guys feel would offer the best combo of fun?

I guess it depends on what you are doing. I am a drag racer using slicks, and I never drive the car very far. I love the combo, but would hate it if I did more long haul driving.

~ 3.3:1. That'll give you 70 MPH at somewhat under 3,000 RPM on a 5 speed, and probably make first gear useful again.

I've got a set of 3.636 on the shelf, and have decided I'll probably be installing it in my car next month, as I'll be doing a lot of freeway commuting. We'll see how that works out. Should put 70MPH right about at 3,100 RPM.

What would the ideal gear ratio be for drag racing? And where would I get it from?

The ideal gear for all drag racing is 4.1:1, regardless of tire size, transmission gearing, engine powerband, etc.

As it happens I have a set in my garage in the 1.8-style fitment. I'll sell 'em to you for $500.

Six speed + 225/45/15...

Probably 3.0 to 3.3. This is a bit backwards compared to the rest of the thread though. :P

Assumtion is the mother of all **** ups.

The NC and Kia R&Ps are known fitments.
