Who has the most miles on their 1.6 diff, boosted?
You weren't kidding... Would have been interesting to see how long it could have taken the street abuse (donuts, clutch kicks, etc). So far it seems that the 6" hates to be drag launched. I'm pretty sure larger tires doesn't help either.
Keep the 1.6 diff reviews coming!

bout 8000km just under 5000mi
crap tyres, about 170whp, was conscious that it would brake so never launched hard.
stock clutch.
it just got louder and louder until I swapped it for a se t2

its not the whp that is gonna kill it, its the tq that will, thats why they let go because of wheel hop and such. go from load to unload state shocking it. Which probably created cracks in the pinon gears and finally one last finally pull on the highway ripped them off on mine.
^How much torque is too much? Givin that one doesn't launch or drag race the 1.6 diff.
I would like to hear how Braineack's 1.6 held up? Found a thread where he had a China-charger dyno'd at around 230whp/230torque.
I would be happy with conservative 200whp/torque or close to it, and a linear power-band.

^^Details on how you drove on the 1.6 diff before its starting to go?..
Reason I ask is I'm not really hard on my car from a launch/dig perspective. I've actually have never tried breaking the tires loose in any gear or even a burn out. Always smooth starts, as I'm pretty conservative about the car in this area. I do, however, enjoy having fun in the turn/curves. One thing I do realize so far, with boost, 1st gear should never see WOT, where torque/power can do the most damage to the drive train.

linh im pretty sure your question was directed at blaen99..
I never launched with wheel spin.
I did go full throttle in first.
as has been stated its transitional loads of power that do the damage. I think what was killing mine was shifting as hard and as fast as i could into second.
heres a thought and its stated for a reason.... the 6" diff will break. I had low grip tyres and an open diff with stock clutch didnt launch hard only changed gear fast and that didnt kill mine but ---- it was loud towards the end of its life.
you are sacrificing a lot of fun in the driving by babying the diff.
the good news is when I upgraded to a torsen 2 it was the best mod I have made to date. far better than any hp gains. acceleration feels better out of corners the cars feels more stable and solid. I can slide and actually enjoy it.
with hindsight and having to choose only 1 mod it would be the diff.
dont spend your time worrying about your current diff. make it your next mod and enjoy the whole car more.
honestly upgrading to lsd makes the car fun

I'm sure there will be a time when I will upgrade to a 1.8 diff. But that option isn't really practical for me. I probably don't have the proper tools or skills to do that kind of job.
Anyways, I also do a lot of fast shifting in first between 4500-5500rpm, rarely do I redline in first gear. But it's usually pretty smooth where I'm not jerking the drivetrain when switching gears. Of course, once boosted, I would probably shift lower in the power band. SN95 first post is exactly how I plan to treat my own car. It probably isn't as "fun" tho

this may not be applicable to you. but if you plan on modding your car dont be afraind to buy tools.
when you need a tool go and buy it im 1 year into doing this modification thing and I am getting close to a good setup of tools.
for the diff youll need a 3/4" breaker bar and applicable socket a jack and 2 stands (this is not optional) other than thats a basic socket set will suffice.
the job is honestly learn as you go i had nfi what i was supposed to be doing or how itd all go together after reading guides but as I did it it all made sense. it is easy and takes half a day on your own while you learn how to do it.

lol my driving depends on the day. somedays i follow sn95's list others i drive like i stole it.
I'm running 5psi (BEGI base kit, no intercooler).
I'm still on the 1.6 VLSD. The clutch is either close to end of life, or I've got oil seeping from the rear main seal. When I try to launch hard, the clutch slips like crazy. Call it built in diff protection.
Oh, total mileage is about 94k, about 5 of it is boosted.

I've got about 200k on my car. It is running a T3 50 trim on 14-15lbs. I don't launch it but other than that I drive the car how I want. I don't really worry about the diff. It has been going strong for 2 years on this setup. Before that the car had nitrous and a few other setups. In the next couple months I'm gonna go ahead and swap a Torsen so I can slide it.
