I've never managed to get up my (extremely steep) driveway with the torsen and the e-brake, which is one of the reasons I sold it and still contemplating on the OSG, but this thread has me thinking. Subscribed.

What's cheaper and more permanent, fixing the driveway or changing the diff?

I rent so I can't fix it. The owner won't do it as every other car with a reasonable suspension travel doesn't have any issues. Derp.

Dual hydro e-brakes, torque and a wheelie bar.

I've done it a couple times, especially going in/out of a driveway with a deep raingutter at the road - if the tire lifts, then engage the e-brake about halfway and continue driving through your obstacle.

If the 4x4 guys saw a bone stock Miata doing this, they'd probably crap their pants - "OMG SPORTZ CAR HAZ LOCKERZZZ!"
no it won't a Torsen is an open diff with one wheel in the air. jack up the back of the car with a Torsen and you can easily spin tires in opposite direction by hand. Engaging the E brake a little might help get some torque to both wheels but without that its like an open diff. jack the back of the car up with an OS Giken the amount of force it takes to spin the tires in opposite directions is a good bit higher than can be done by hand you need a longer lever arm than just the radius of the tires to make it feel like its not just a solid axle. However I can say haven twisted an axle in two before with the OS, that amount of locking force you feel by hand was not enough that the car would drive forward with one wheel disconnected from being able to transmit torque certainly not up an incline.

The amount of force a TORSEN can apply to the wheel that isn't in the air is directly proportional to the amount of "pre-load" applied by the e-brake.

I don't know it well enough, but I suspect that the amount of force a OS Giken can apply to the wheel that isn't in the air is perhaps proportional to the applied engine torque?

In the first scenario, you just apply more e-brake to make it up the uneven hill at a comfortable pace.

In the second scenario...I suspect you're flooring it in order to get up the hill?

During the 25 hours of Thunderhill Cat Fish broke a passengers side halfshaft and still managed to get around the track at a good clip with OSG rear end. Driver said it felt like a slipping clutch. Not sure why you can't make it up the driveway with yours.

Driveway issues aside I can't image a better LSD for the track. It's the most progressive lockup of anything I've ever driver.

Torque vectoring by selectively applying the brakes would be a solution. WRX/Evo drivers: Am I right about this?
