Default $80 instant rebate for Falken RT 660 on TireRack

I just wanted to share since the autocross season is just getting started. I've been researching between the Nankang CRS, BFG Rival S 1.5, and Falken RT 660s, but since I found this deal I am ordering the Falkens now. For the 245/40/15 it brings down the cost per tire to $158 on TireRack compared to $230+ for the other options. Not sponsored, brand affiliated, etc. If this isn't allowed feel free to nuke.

I also grabbed some with this rebate. Mine were date stamped late 2022, but oh well. I believe Tire Rack has discounts on most of the other major 200 TW tires as well FWIW.

I ordered through Discount Tire and they were able to apply the discount for me, even though I didn't do anything through Tire Rack.

I wish I knew that Discount Tire would also provide the discount since I'll probably have them mount and balance mine. I didn't think they would budge on the price since it wasn't directly applied to the tires' prices, just an instant rebate. I'll be sure to check back in with the date of manufacturing when I receive mine. I'd be more than okay with a 2022 tire since mine usually don't last longer than 2 years, but hopefully they're not trying to empty even older inventory at Tire Rack. Additionally, I don't really compete, I just autocross for fun hence why I'd rather save money than go with the fastest of the fast tires.

I also checked Tire Rack and couldn't find any discounts available for BF Goodrich or Nankang, which are the only other 245/40/15s that I was considering. As for other sizes, there was a $70 discount for applicable Bridgestone tires. I'm not sure if that applies to the Potenzas, but it might be worth investigating for our smaller tired friends.

I didn't scour through every discount they have, but there's also $70 off the RE-71RS which they have in 205/50/15 or 225/50/15.

Sorry, haha. I've tried them on my older brother's 350z, which is not comparable to the Miata, but I was happy with how they performed. They should be decently faster than the Maxxis VR-1s that I'm coming from since those were more endurance-based like the Hankook RS4s. I've also read some testing from Grassroots Motorsport, and they were all fairly equivalent (Nankang CRS vs Potenza at least). I highly doubt I'm good enough of a driver to utilize that minor difference. They did mention different driving characteristics other than raw time which is the only thing I'd be able to recognize. But at the end of the day, if you want to be a second or less faster on a 60-second course for $70 more per tire, be my guest, but at least for myself, I'd rather spend the $280 elsewhere. (like your transmission )

edit to avoid a third post: I think we were typing at the same time Simba. But as far as I'm aware they don't come in 245/40/15s

This happened on Sunday. It's my 3rd delaminated RT660 out of 12 tires so far. This was the 3rd track day on this tire, with 1 day on the rear and 2 days on the front. I have a brand new set mounted, but I'm gonna be switching it up after I use those up. (Maxxis RC-1 is the direction I'm leaning right now) The RT660's are super cheap, but I think they are costing me more in time & money than if I just bought a more expensive tire in the very beginning.

Oh yeah, I'm not bashing the performance of the RT660s at all. I think I'm on my 6th or 7th set of them haha. They've got amazing peak traction, much more so than the V730s I ran before, they just overheat quickly. The issue there is that I suck too bad to ensure I'm gonna set a heater of a lap in my first 2-3 hot laps lol.
I'm with you 100% though. As long as they don't delaminate, I'll take 'em all day.

Damn, that sucks. I'd be pretty pissed off at that point. What size are you running and what pressures? I think I've owned 24 or more RT660s at this point and the 3 that delam'd on me were all 225s last year. Our Snap-On guy that comes to my work is a big time attack guy and fields two Subarus with RT660s (I don't remember the wheel/tire sizes unfortunately). He said in his and a lot of the other Subie guys' experience, the RT660s will consistently delam on them if they run anything under 26psi cold. I've gotta imagine there's more factors to it than that but I haven't delam'd a single one since I bumped up to 27psi cold on 245s.

I'm willing to bet it's still just a coin toss with manufacturer defects, though. Maybe one of these days I'll put a couple semi-smoked RT660s on for a laid back track day, run em at 24psi and see what happens.

I'm running 245's and I started at 28psi cold and when I got off track it was 34psi hot, so I dropped it down to 32psi. Next session I came in at 33psi and dropped down to 32psi again. (I think I did this twice.) and then I dropped it down to 30psi because the tires weren't gripping as well as before and that's where I had been running them. I was trying 32psi because I wanted a bit more even tire wear, at 30psi, I seem to be wearing out both edges, but not as much of the center. Anyway, I was a little faster at 30psi, but overall much slower than the last time I was at that track. I think the tires just heat cycled out / not as good after sitting around all winter, it was the 3rd track day on them.

I just checked the PSI in my tires "cold" when they were at 30psi hot. They are at 24psi right now. Which is probably around where I had starting on one of the other track days (especially the 2nd one) cause I probably didn't add any air knowing they were running 30 hot just a couple weeks beforehand and just check once they were warmed up. I'll try to make certain I start the sticker set I have right now at 27psi cold and just bleed off some of the air when they get above 32psi hot & see if that set has one that delaminates on me or not.

Still, I'm gonna try something else next time, a 25% failure rate is too much for me.

No idea on how it plays into delamination, but FWIW I run my 245 RT660s at 28-30 PSI for autocross. I adjust back to ~28 as they heat up. That just seemed to be where the tire was happiest and gave the most grip.

For those who were concerned. The tires were dated 52nd week of 2022. Works for me.
