All we have here is 'pro' teams have their sponsors pay for 3k/set michelin slicks, the less fortunate still rave about the r888. It's pathetic. Best us miata guys can do is get scrubbed ad048s from. I'd love more competitive rubber in miata sizes that doesn't cost 1.5k/set.

Never tried V70A K61 205s then (faster and cheaper than A048 but last a bit shorter)?

Oh well, 245/40-15 DOT might be a nice try when playing in the slicks class (not optimal but not that costly either).

Even when there is a mold it might be tough to get the tires done. Our favorite rubber is listed in 225/45-15 but that was last made in 2003 or so. Now we need to buy 100 tires to get them to make a batch of 200 (minimum for Kumho apparently). Since one set last almost one season and the rest of Europe seems uninterested it will not happen (unless I can get UK and Germany to whine on their dealers)...
No, R888 and RS2 are not good enough.

Social networking works, and companies are listening, sometimes.
I think getting 100 tires sold would be easier if say Nitto offered the same deal in a 245 for the NT01. I would grab 3 sets myself. The problem with the 225 size is there are so many other options so getting people to jump on kuhmo's would be tough. I would like to try em myself.

The 225 size is as rare here (E-marked) as 245 is as DOT.
Kumho don't offer V70A in the US anyway, so it's different molds.

Offer the deal to Nitto to buy 25 sets on one invoice and see what the response will be?
The US market is a little bigger than ours (and we are still racing stockish power levels).

Would love to get a bigger set of NT-01's 205s now just seem too small.

Finding the traction limits of my 225 RS3 being pretty short of awesome I would easily spend money on NT01 245s for the right price.

Has anyone heard any updates on 245/40/15 from either Maxxis or Nitto? I keep holding my breath..

Forget about a 245 NT01. Nitto shows no interest in that size.

Maxxis is testing the 245 size now. If all goes well we will see production tires real soon. If they feel it needs more tweaking it's gonna take a bit longer.

A 245/40R15 in a 200TW+ tire would be a lot more interesting than some maxxis slick.

Alas, I feel like talk about the possibility of these has been going on for ages... I probably shouldn't hold my breath that the RC-1 will happen in time for events at the end of this year, but I'm hoping for a good excuse to move up to 15x10 next season

I ran a set of 225 NT01 for a season and was vary pleased with the price to grip ratio. But now with the added hp(300hp), I would need to go to 245's.

Hang tight...Maxxis will deliver as soon as they feel they got it right. I for one am glad the opted to refine it a bit more before letting it out.

Will Nitto step up and deliver? I doubt it. They monitor how often "245/40/15" comes up in posts but I don't think replies to a thread add to there method of gauging interest.

Maxxis have delivered some 245 this year, why none of them have surfaced in the US is a mystery.
Or is it just a preproduction run and the real ones will be made of proper rubber?

They are in the hands of some fine folks in the US who are working directly with Maxxis to tweak the tire. I am not one of those folks. The people I know that have em run lots of track days and will provide valuable feedback data. I assume they don't make all of that data known due to agreements with Maxxis.

The dealer that got them here is certainly nothing special, and got two sets just by ordering from the list (just to see if there was interest).
He still have three tires left if you want them.

The tires that got shipped to Europe are leftover P1's (Prototype #1) from a pilot run. We tested those Spring 2013. Suggested to Maxxis that they make a few changes, which they did. We tested a few weeks ago. Green light.

More info when the time comes.
