Pushing for it. Anyone else who would like to see such a tire exist, go email all the manufacturers currently making fast 200tw tires. More voices helps. I'd recommend "Here is why you should make this" rather than "Hi are guys going to make this?"

Please do! If there is demand they will make it.

AlwaysBroken 12-12-2017 04:10 PM

If this is real, it definitely adds an incentive for me to go with 15x10 wheels instead of 15x9.

Bronson M 02-12-2019 06:14 AM

I'm seeing chatter from Miata Parts Source on Facebook about a 275 and 295 200tw street tires to be released later this year. Any truth to that?

apexanimal 02-14-2019 08:54 PM

i haven't heard any rumors of that nature... it would be news to me.

Bronson M 02-14-2019 08:55 PM

He's saying federal's......meh we'll see. Hopefully it justifies some real 200tw tires.

LukeG 02-14-2019 10:37 PM

I know this thread was brought back from the dead, but I have never seen it before. Holy mother of God can we please get a 275/35/15 VR1!!!

Contact them here.
https://www.maxxis.com/contact-us

LukeG 02-15-2019 12:41 PM

Got a response from Maxxis:

We are glad to hear you are loving the 245/40R15 VR-1! Thanks for the support. What type of motorsports are you using them for? Track days or competition?

We have been asked to make a 275/35R15 in the past for Miata racing and are continuing to investigate the possibility of making this size. Are you also requesting this size for Miata racing or do you have an other use for the tire? Any information you can share with us would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your request.

I also emailed maxxis to try to get them to make them. Im sure if we got a bunch of people here to send emails it would happen.

Send some emails people!

If any mods see this, is there any chance we could mention this thread in the racing section briefly? The wheels and tires section is pretty slow and I think a lot of people that may be interested won't see it.

emilio700 02-15-2019 11:10 PM

We are talking about a street tire, not a race tire. This is the appropriate section.

Scaxx 02-16-2019 02:32 PM

Because there aren't any 200tw racing classes

90LowNSlo 02-16-2019 04:49 PM

I don't need a 275 tire at this point in time but hopefully this will go through. If it does surely others will follow suite.

TNTUBA 02-17-2019 07:30 AM

This would be my favorite thing EVER...like EVER in the whole world.

Der_Idiot 02-18-2019 02:11 AM

A nice non-slick way to put 400#tq to concrete is always welcome. Would make mods for 15x10s (maybe 11s?) if I could get street tires for them.

Anybody that needs more grip than a 275/35/15 VR-1 will generate on track will opt for Hoosiers, Toyo RR, FA fronts or something similarly suitable.
IOW, a 275/35 VR-1 overlaps with smaller Hoosiers in terms of $/speed. It's not practical however, to run a full slick on the street as a daily for most drivers. Thus the need for the biggest damn street tire evar.

I've thought of this post several times over the past year or so and would really like to see Maxxis make both tires in this size. Overlapping with smaller Hoosier grip or not, I feel like a 275 RC1 would probably be a great tire for a 100TW class like Limited GTA. I remember Thruxton Booth had to run tall 17's on his Civic because they don't make a wide enough 15" RC1 for him. Ryan's Hyper Miata might could benefit from something like that as well (if only someone would make a 275 super 200 like a Rival S). That kind of tire might also make an STU MSM a bit more competitive. Not holding my breath on anyone but Maxxis taking the plunge on that for a while, though.

Anyone that still follows this thread, I got a response from Maxxis today and I have started a Petition for this effort. If you still have interest please go to my link here and sign!

did this get anywhere?

Don't think so

stng_96 09-10-2019 12:29 PM

When I was looking for signatures I didn't want it to linger to long, so after a couple weeks I sent it to the reps I had heard from. Sadly the only response I got back was something along the lines of we are glad to see there is some interest in this product and will keep it in mind through further development.

I think at least one company is working on it regardless, but i'm not sure if this petition really made a dent

90LowNSlo 09-10-2019 09:35 PM

I would love to see 275 rs4s one day... A pipe dream.

TNTUBA 01-19-2020 10:08 AM

SOOOOOOOO To bring this back up.

Yesterday at the SCCA Convention a new class was announced for National Level Solo.

"Extreme Street"......think cars like mine but on 200tw "street tires"

There appears to be a great deal of excitement about the class and a formal press release is coming later in the week.

Do you all think we can leverage this new classification to gain the traction needed to get this conversation started again......hopefully with Yokohama.....

Sensei 01-19-2020 11:05 AM

I’m very excited to see what the XS class brings- a justification for 275 street tires is absolutely there now! Although I’d personally like to see a lesser mfg like maxxis or Nanking (good tires with a milder price point) make something- rumors are the Nanking AR1(100tw) may be coming in 275....

apexanimal 01-19-2020 06:41 PM

falken hasn't release sizing info for their upcoming tire yet... i'd be surprised if they did a 275 but we'll see.

yes the ar-1 will be coming in a 275 late summer, but it's 100tw which doesn't help your situation atm.

atm the fastest 200tw is the 245 rival-s...

ES designation is already spoken for.

Maybe it can be called.......SEX.

lol

The Milwaukee SCCA chapter has been doing "extreme street" classing at a local level for quite a few years with good success. We called it "Tire Limited" here. It's pretty nice to see it carry over to the national arena. Hopefully this move is enough to get a 275 street tire on the market as I would love to sign up for that.

KYSCCA unveiled Street Tire Fully Unlimited back in like 2006. Class name was changed due to objections from a member who wouldn't obey the new acronym, and became Street Tire Open (STO).

In the Rocky Mountain SOLO, we had Open Street Tire (OST) for the first time last year with some success. I'm also excited to see what Xtreme Street looks like at Nationals this year. I fear my Miata is going to be tire limited against other cars competing, so a 275 street tire will go a long way in helping that!

apexanimal 07-07-2020 08:24 PM

After speaking with the people at Nankang, there is an upcoming 200tw tire from them, and considering the ar-1 is coming in the 275/35-15 size, i have already begun to work on them to produce that 275 in the upcoming 200tw tire - the CR-1.

i'm running gltc, and the ability to keep weight low/power high is the primary reason I'm trying to stay on street tires.

if anyone wants to contact them to show support, i think it would help.

emilio700 07-07-2020 11:21 PM

That's great. Do you have an actual contact name or email for people to send?

good call.

i reached out to them to see what the best way would be for people to show their support for the new tire/size.
i'll check back in as soon as i hear.

apexanimal 07-13-2020 06:56 PM

What series/classes would these tires fit into?

Besides the na/nb miata, and honda crowd, are there other chassis that would be interested in this?

LukeG 07-14-2020 11:33 AM

275/35/15 all the cars!

Perhaps a budget (skinny) offering for Countach drivers. 345-35-15 for a single car isn’t a cheap tire.

They wouldn't buy them. Pirelli still makes those tires just for the Countach/Pantera crowd. Not like they drive those cars much anyway so they're just replacing them as they get old. Spending a couple grand on tires doesn't seem like it's that big of a deal when later Countachs are worth $300-400k now.

FrankB 08-05-2020 12:52 PM

Not 200TW but Nankang now lists the AR-1 in 275/35/15

apexanimal 08-07-2020 09:17 AM

yup. we knew that was coming... still trying hard to get the cr1 in a 275 for us.

apexanimal 08-12-2020 09:37 PM

Good news!

I've received word that Nankang intends to bring it's new tire, the CR-1 - a 200tw, in many sizes... including a 275/35-15!

Since this tire is just entering production, the actual eta for purchase is anywhere from 6 to 12 months out.

Good news, even if its deferred, it's coming!

Tran 08-25-2020 07:00 AM

A bit more info.

225/45R15 in first batch with 245 shortly after. They wrote 245/45R15 but I think that's a typo and the dropdown box to pre-order says 245/40R15.

i updated in another thread:

the ar1 is available in 275's atm, but the 275 cr1's have been delayed one year... i don't find this to be good news.

consistent pressure is suggested through the fall...

I located the other thread and subscribed. I see the AR-1 on Phil's.
Thanks for keeping at this!
