6UL 15x7-7.5-8-9 comparison pics

Some of you may be deciding between the 6UL variants so I though I'd post these images to show the differences. Exact same car. Just jacked it up and swapped wheels. All inflated to 30psi.

Oh and yes, the 15x7 & 15x7.5 are finally in production. Due here in November.

All 9" 6ULs are +36.

The difference between boys and men is half an inch of rim lip. :giggle:

shouldnt you be depositing your alpha male all over levnubin somewhere. before he leaves for the navy. gotta get that cherry while its still good and ripe. let all those navy boys know: "hustlers been here"

blackna 08-29-2010 12:54 AM

It sucks that i can't find an all season or even a street tire that has more than a 100aa for the 15x9's. The only thing i see is summer or track. oh well.... i gues i'll have to go with the 15x8's. That blows.

triple88a 08-29-2010 09:27 PM

No. Not that i can find. I've checked like 8 tire sites;and notta

Deatschwerks 08-30-2010 10:08 AM

The Hankook RS3 is a 140 treadwear. :) Though, I wouldn't want to drive that compound in cold temperatures.

BoostedAP1 09-02-2010 03:45 PM

6ul? You can do 15x10 or 11 if they had that with a nice roll N pull. BUT if its a low offset then try 15x9. 6ul are high offsets.

Kumho ECSTA AST are cheap all season 61$ a piece 225/50/15's. Im sure there not awesome sticky but pretty good. Reviews give it a 6.5 at tire rack.

i've got them in a smaller size, i don't freak out in the snow or rain, they have enough grip for me now, not FI though.

I've driven mine in 40ish degree temps without any issues. I went from Azenis (RT-215's) to the RS-3's and while the Azenis were wildly different in cold temps, the RS3's you can tell but it's not a dramatic difference.

I've got RS3's for summer and cheapo Falken 195/60/14 512's for the rest of the time. When it hits in the low 40's it takes a really good warm up for the RS3's to perform any better than the 512's. I got them late in the season (when it was cold) and I was really disappointed for the first drive (combo of new release compound and cold rubber.) They are already stored in the basement for next season (Michigan.)

throw some snow tires on them :)

me like pretty things.

Check our website for details on the exact version you are interested in.

Ship date for current production run of 15x8 & 15x9 has not changed since first posted on site and are right on schedule. 15x7 & 15x7.5 6UL were delayed almost 6 months but finally completed last week.

Best to contact us directly for latest details as forum posts are only current for the one day.

Thats good news. I will be running this same setup for next season

Big thanks to Emilio for special delivery late last night of our 6ul shipment. Getting my first look at the new 15x7.5 6UL today and I must say it is another home run....easy to predict that this will be THE WHEEL on all the fast STS class autocross cars this year!

JasonC SBB 01-07-2011 12:50 PM

Do I understand correctly that with 225 tires, 15x9's are faster than 15x8?

Yes....15x9 faster for autocross or track thanks to more stable contact patch, more ultimate grip from the same size tire.

Yup. Depends on the car and course but we usually see about a second on a 2 minute + road course, less on a shorter one. Autocross is less, maybe .4~.6 typically.

General rule of thumb (my rule): For maximum performance from radials, choose wheel width at least as wide as tire section width. Ignore bead width, tread width and manufacturers (lawyers) recommendations.

Without a doubt.

205's and 225's are about the same when mounted on a 7" rim

Go to an 8" rim and 225's are better.

Go to a 9" rim and the performance increase from 8 to 9 is even more than the jump from 7 to 8 with the 225's.

:crx: Glad to hear that. I have been :giggle: with excitment ever since I maned up and order my 15x8's

Thanks for being able to switch my order to nickle also ;)

JasonC SBB 01-09-2011 09:07 PM

So if 15x8's with 225 tires don't rub on my 2000 without fender rolling, does it mean that the same tires on 15x9's won't rub as well? If they will, how is that so? The tire tread is located in the same place in space... or does it rub on the sidewalls near the rim's inside lip at full lock?

9" wheel sometimes contacts control arm at full lock.

I wonder how many times I've typed that.

falcon 01-09-2011 10:00 PM

Emilio, do you have any pictures on file of a 225 50 15 on a 15x9 on an NA. Im having a hard time finding some fitment pics. Im only looking at a 50 series tire because I have a line on 225 50 15 V710s for $65 each. Once they wear out Ill go to a 225 45.

They're really big.

Attachment 191761

Attachment 191762

And check the tire size and gearing calculators to see if you really want to do it.

falcon 01-09-2011 10:32 PM

I think gearing should be fine since Im running a 4.4 final drive with a 5 sp. If anything larger tire size will be kind of like going with a longer final drive.

you know it would be interesting to do a study on this to see if there is a certain year or option that does this, I have a 93, w/ first get 15x9 6uls, depowered steering rack and have no rubbing issue.

They don't fit. 225/50s rub everything in the front on an NA at any reasonable ride height (~12"). My 225/45s already brush the tops of the fenders and rub the shock towers under hard cornering.

Gotpsi? 01-10-2011 01:25 AM

My 225 45's rub the shock towers as well but net enough to be concerned with, but the wheels don't rub the control arms.

Savington 01-10-2011 01:28 AM

Yep. 225/45s rub stuff but not enough for me to do anything about it - I never hear anything rub, I just get little rubber marks on the shock towers and the tops of the fenders. As for them rubbing the UCA, you just learn to not use full lock with 225s, since the big tire will rub an oversized/aftermarket FSB no matter what. One turn, plus a quarter, and stop - you can turn a Miata around pretty much anywhere with just that.

Thesnowboarder ran a set of 225/50 street tires for a day or two - they rubbed EVERYTHING. Too tall for the car.

falcon 01-10-2011 01:36 AM

Ok, I guess that kills that idea.

Faeflora 01-10-2011 10:15 AM

I have a NB with 225/50 RS2s all around.

The front rubs quite a bit under hard cornering

rears and front had to take out fender liners

need a fender roll front/back. may be able to get away without it but it will still rub.

JasonC SBB 01-10-2011 11:03 AM

Plus in even tighter quarters you can simply do a "Formula 1 U-turn".

falcon 01-10-2011 08:02 PM

This guy is running 15x9 6UL and a 225/50/15 V710
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_HvUwaoUY25I/Sb...0/MKS_4780.JPG

I'm having a hard time passing these up because they are so cheap. I want to run them, and when they wear out I'll go to a 225/45/15 R6 or something.

I PM'd him and he said he had to raise the car a bit but he has no rubbing with rolled fenders.

emilio700 01-10-2011 08:44 PM

I ran 225/50 V710's on Gen 1 15x8's on the NA a few years ago. They're fatter than most 225/50's. Had to flat roll front and rear. Touched tub on top of tread, shock tower bulge and sway bar. Guessing there might be contact on fender lip with 9's. For a track fitment, I'd say run it. If it ain't rubbin, your wheels are too small. Hmm, that'd make a good T-Shirt slogan

falcon 01-10-2011 08:56 PM

lol... good slogan for sure.

And at the price they are, if they don't work out I'll sell em to some AutoX'er and buy some NT01s.

Just make sure they're not rocks. Two ads in the back of GRM and Sportscar, both of which I've gotten great deals on fresh tires from. A durometer is useful tool for any racer.

falcon 01-10-2011 09:25 PM

I have a durometer. I'll be checking them when I get them. They are older tires, but they have been sitting in Kuhmo's local warehouse, not in someones garage so they 'should' be fine. If they are rocks, I am going to pass on them.

speeddemon32 01-18-2011 06:20 PM

Emilio, we're running a 195/60-14 Dunlop Direzza on our Chump Car Daisy wheels. This past weekend we were turning 1:31s at Roebling Road. What's a wild azz guess that 205/50-15 on a 15x8 would pick up? 1 second? More? We don't have the fastest car at each race but so far we've had podiums in our first 3 and are looking for ways to have a little more car.

Thanks.
