Default 245/40/15 Nitto NT01

I have been trading emails with the folks at Nitto today. While they have not committed to the above tire they did reveal how they go about evaluating need. Not only do they watch the competition for new sizes they use analytics looking for key words.

Bottom line is the more threads discussing the subject of the 245/40/15 size and NT01 the more likely that it will be made.

How about a show of hands wanting this size tire in a NT01.

A tire mold is $150,000-200,000. The 205/225 probably has not even been paid off yet.

Depending on the type of mold they use adding a spacer is easy. Look close at the new 245/40/15 Hoosier R6. You will see 2 seam lines down the center. This is because they used a spacer on the 225/45/15 mold. That is also why it measures 23" tall when the math says it should be shorter.

I think with the R6 coming out it shows some kind of demand for it in itself.

That was one of the points I made in my email exchange.

Another thing to add to the email exchange is Maxxis has a 245/40/15 listed that is more of a direct competition to the NT01 than the R6 due to their treadware. Price will be on par with NT01 probably since the 205 is priced at 140 on their site.

Sizes | Maxxis Victra RC-1

Might be tempted to give those a try some time.

Wow that's great news on the Maxxis. I guess Emilio pulled it off after all. I will try a set for sure!

I sent Nitto the link. Lets see how they respond.

I also heard from a reliable dealer the Toyo RR will also be made in the 245/40/15 size.

Don't hold your breath. While they say it's coming they don't say when.

Wouldn't be able to run them anyways. Not enough points to spare. A 245 NT01 would be perfect since my car is probably going to end up in Miata challenge where points for tires are tread ware only.

Wish they'd take a 275 and add a couple inches in the middle and call it whatever they want to!

Dually 205s?

Even when there is a mold it might be tough to get the tires done. Our favorite rubber is listed in 225/45-15 but that was last made in 2003 or so. Now we need to buy 100 tires to get them to make a batch of 200 (minimum for Kumho apparently). Since one set last almost one season and the rest of Europe seems uninterested it will not happen (unless I can get UK and Germany to whine on their dealers)...
No, R888 and RS2 are not good enough.

Social networking works, and companies are listening, sometimes.
