Discount Tire acquires Tire Rack
For real. TR acquired by Discount.
For me at least, TR has always had excellent customer service, a good website UI. Only complaint was the dumbed down wheel selection tools that didn't let you shop by size or dimensions.
Forced you to choose from the wheels they deem applicable ( to make the lawyers happy). DT, hasn't always impressed me. Hoping that DT doesn't mess with TR and their operations.

Man, really disappointing news. I've always had tough luck with Discount Tire. Unfortunately, with my hobbies, work life, and general travel i do i'm always buying tires. Generally i tried to stick with Tirerack for most of my "performance" purchases. Then use Discount Tire for my daily driver tires where i utilize the road hazard warranty.
A few years ago DT wouldn't mount 225s on my 15x9 and wouldn't even sell me the tires for the Miata.
Recently I was on a waiting list for pilot super sports at DT. I was getting close to a trip and needed tires badly thinking they'd have them in time. A week before the trip I check the online DT store and they have them "in stock" in their phoenix location. Call the store and ask why my tires haven't arrived and they had no excuse. Couldn't get the tires, even though i could order them online and never even put the order through from what i understand.
I called Belle Tire (A midwest company) who is actually headquartered in the city i live in, Allen park. They had them in stock and was able to square me up literally that day. I've been a BT customer ever since.
So i'm with you. I hope DT keeps their fingers off the day to day operation. But i know they won't.

To be honest, Discount Tire has been a fine experience for me, minus having to call to get the tires ordered due to their stupid website. Unfortunately, last time my tires came in they realized, after thousands spent on the same combo, that they weren't "allowed by policy" to mount 225s on 9s. Walked out without tires, as it was a flat refusal. Not sure what that'll mean for TR, but I've never used them much anyway. Cheaper to get tires shipped from one of the lesser-known sites and mounted for $40 at one of the local Spanish speaking shops. Hopefully if TR goes downhill new competition will emerge.

I've been dealing with DT locally for 20+ years. Always had good customer service, and they would match any prices. I've also dealt with TR over the years without any complaints, but the DT in town would always match/beat their prices. They even ordered a set of tires directly from TR for me one year... TR had the exclusive, but DT still matched the TR price. I've never had them even comment when mounting 225s on 9s or 205s on 8s for the Miatas... most recently about a month ago.
In general, less competition is worse for the consumer, but I'll hope for the best with this merger.
