Dunno Curly, that statement sounds like a bit of a stretch...

Tirerack lists the 225 Rival as having an 8.5" tread width. Tread width is what matters on radial tires, not what the sidewall looks like.

IDK about the rivals, but I'm pretty sure either Emilio or Sav have data that 225 RS3s are faster on 10s than 9s (for high-HP cars on a 2:00 lap at least I think that's what it was, don't feel like searching for it).

Rule of thumb for performance use:

Wheel width should be the same as actual tread width or slightly wider.

I like the 1:1 idea. When anyone asks, just say 1:1

I have seen data supporting 225's being faster than 205's posted by Sav or Emilio, but I think both were tested on an 8" wheel.

Those look perfect. Ignore the rim width specs. Lawyers write them.

205 on a 7<205 on a 8<225 on a 8<225 on a 9

225 RA1s fit fine on 15x7s. Hell, I used to run 205 BFG R1s on a 14x5.5, although that was pushing it. :)

There was a guy at solo nationals that put 275/35/15 A6's on the factory 15x6 on the front of an Integra Type R in stock class. No, he didn't win.

The usual theory I've heard for doing this is that while they're slower than 275s on a properly-sized rim, they're faster than 225s on on the rule-required rim size.

I have no idea if it's true or not. :)

This year G stock was won with a 2003 Celica 15X6.5 wheels 275 tires.

Most 205 r comp or race tires want to be on an 8. Please don't be the guy that makes a class run late because he wants to talk about the exception not the rule. As pointed out you can run a 275 on a 5" rim, tons of grip but probably feels like shit.

Such a Ricer.

zeewhiz 04-01-2014 01:30 PM

I don't see the problem... looks perfect to me.

Could you link to the data on tens being faster?

I don't have any data like that. Maybe Andrew does
