I just bought a battery impact to change wheels quicker, and I'm wondering if there exists a socket that will attach to my battery impact easier than the one that came with the lug nuts. They are the tuner-style spline nuts, and the stupid socket that came with them only has the hex on the outside to fit into a lug wrench, it doesn't have any kind of square hole. The best option would be one that went directly into the hex-hole on the impact, but that seems even less likely to exist.

Any ideas oh experts?

Cheap socket and a welder. I cut mine off and welded a short extension to it. It has worked great for 4 years now.

 

I have a set of McGard splined lugnuts and I believe they came with a warning not to use the socket in an impact wrench. I have no idea what the failure rate is on them, but the socket is fairly thin-walled so I could see it being a bit fragile. I have used it in a drill though to speed up the majority of the threading (except for the initial loosening and final torquing). Drill chuck-to-1/2" drive adapter into a 21mm socket that holds the splined socket.

 

I've used the one I have in a real impact, and it's survived, and I doubt a battery impact is going to do much damage to any sockets.

It sounds like my only option is to find somebody who can weld something simple like that.

 

It's too hard to put a 3/4" socket on your impact drill, then leave your spline socket in there? Use them nifty thumb thingys to hold it on. You know, the one you have on each hand.

 

There's the hex bit that goes into the impact, then the socket that goes onto that, and then the spline socket on that, and when you add up the slop in all three of those attachments you don't get anywhere near the rated torque of the impact and it probably won't remove tightened lug nuts.

btw, you probably wont want to use the impact to break the cheapy spline drive nuts loose.

those adapters are known to break pretty easily.
