Is TireRack worth it after shipping, mounting?
Make friends with your local Discount Tire manager, and if DT doesn't have a set of tires you're looking for, they'll order it for you through TR. I bought my Rivals through DT and came out $10 ahead (no shipping, mounting and balancing, less taxes, etc).
Also if you tell them that you can get a set of tires that TR does have cheaper, they'll beat the price on the spot. I think when I got tires for the Mazda2, I picked up some rock hard Yokohamas that were $10 cheaper on TR, and the dude knocked off $15 per tire in store while ordering.

Finally got some time to log in and check this. Thank you all for the feedback and tips. I'll be sure to use as much of that as I can when I get some summer wheels. For now, I placed an order for General Tire Altimax Arctics from TireRack. Got a good deal with a rebate and used their local installer options so I could make it as easy as possible for family members helping me keep the car in shape. I'll need the winters by the time I finally get home from this deployment.
I'll be peeling through the forum in no time to find a wheel/tire combo to buy on TR - unless I snag the 6ULs.

I know it's an old thread, but when I shop for tires on Tirerack, I wait for their clearance items. I just picked up 2 Goodyeaer F1 Assymetric 245/40/17 for $112 a piece. Pay attention to the DOT though.
