Default used track day 6uls

Hello, my name is Danny and I was wondering what you guys think about buying used 6uls. The owner claims that they have ten track days on them and the only damage is from rubbing on the inside lip from when he had stock springs. Should I be worried about buying used track wheels even if they look perfect and are 6uls?

If they aren't bent, they are fine.

Jeez, I thought my post count was low.

3 posts in 5 years. Two of which are in the thread. Coming out of the shell finally?

Just be sure to check them over for cracks in the spokes. This should be done often with any wheels before using them but should especially be done when buying them.

This is especially true if they have been straightened after being slightly bent. The same is true for all wheels.

Wheels will not last forever, all wheels can fail under certain stress.

This one failed in a normal corner after two years of abuse. I'm sure there would have been cracks before the session (this was on the first lap), but thorough inspection before each session is not in the routines, yet (after each weekend is not a bad idea I guess).

An old timer taught me a neat trick for this: after a through visual inspection, remove the center cap if you can and hold the rim up off the ground by the center. Then rap the outside of the rim with something like a wooden hammer handle. It should ring clear like a bell. Any buzzing means its probably cracked somewhere.

You don't need to wail on it with the hammer end, just bonk it with the handle hard enough to make it ring. Save the hammer end for steel rims.

Wow, I did not know that wheels could fail through wear and tear. I thought it was by hitting curbs at speed to cause that sort of failure

Wheels are wear items

Only Chinese reps fail like that.
