GT2554R or GT2560R

Anyone got one for sale? looking to upgrade from my t25

Or a GT2560R....

18psi 10-03-2018 11:25 PM

IF you're upgrading, I would also suggest gt2560r for you ;)

borka 10-03-2018 11:39 PM

T25 to GT2554R is not really an upgrade, a bit better spool and thats about it.

Unless you are seeking optimum spool, i would suggest a GT2560R, a bit better spool than T25 and more top end power.

Yeah thanks guys! Not looking for a huge upgrade, still on an unbuilt engine. Looking to go from a journal to ball bearing setup as ive been having some weird oil blow by issues in the turbo.

I just want quick spool, and something that is plug and play on my manifold/dp setup.

18psi 10-04-2018 10:24 AM

I can tell you confidently that your spool will not improve. Contrary to the nonsense that's spewn all over the interwebz about ball bearing vs journal, "spool" or "boost threshold" is not dictated by the bearings, but by the sizing. In this case, the T and GT are sized identically (iirc) so what you do stand to gain is a teeny tiny bit of transient response, and nothing else.

Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong at all with your plan, just providing you with more options. Can't go wrong either way, just that the 2560 will give you much more headroom and topend power

Yeah the spool is fine right now it seems on this T25, when we get this EBC dialed in it should be even better.

Im more concerned with this oil situation. I have a 360 degree dynamic seal kit on the way, hopefully that does the trick.

borka 10-04-2018 11:12 AM

Do you have an oil restrictor?

agree, i blame VLAD or E02k haha.. this is where the turbo came from. Still had sharpie balancing marks on it when i installed it.

Those sharpie marks are from G-Pop shop. Send it back to them and have them fix it lol
It's rebuilt with their kit and balanced by them. No idea at all why it's smoking, though it did sit for ever, and changed hands several times. EO2k had nothing to do with that turbo

PS: if the sharpie marks are still clear/clean, that means you can replace seals on it yourself and not have to re-balance it.

....and because I was feeling nostalgic, here you go:

Pretty much a brand new turbo at this point.

So now the only thing I'm waiting for is Flyin Miata to ship me their turbo inlet and silicone lower rad hose. Decided to go with their inlet vs piecing together my own. Just seems easier this way, and total comes out within 30 bux

If anyone has either or both of these parts for sale, speak up

Unfortunately no. Work has been kicking my butt lately. I'll hopefully have some free time next week or something.

That looks great. Please post it whenever you can, if I get mine to be like that I'll be a happy man. I'm still completely stumped at what's causing it. I tried everything we talked about so far and what you suggested, and nothing seemed to completely rid me of that weird dip.

No time for something that big. Just tinkering with parts and making them all pretty and bolting stuff together.
