Default NB 6 speed shifter

Sorta last minute, I decided to go 6 speed on my NA when I lost reverse in my latest 5 speed. I did not realize that I also needed the 6 speed shifter. I adapted the 5 speed one to drive around but its pretty stiff and makes my reverse lights come on with every shift, I unplugged the reverse switch. Does anyone have one I can buy or is there an aftermarket option that I am not seeing?

I know someone who has an extra one, and texted him to see if he is willing to sell.

Got a call back from the junk yard I bought the tranny from and they have one. Thank you for checking for me, appreciate it!

Make sure it's the right tip diameter -- the 6-speed shifters changed right around '01, on cars with the last 6 of the VIN higher than 220738 (according to MiataRoadster).

I believe the only difference is in the bushing.

From Bill @ MR:

For NB2 6-speeds, Mazda enlarged the OD of the tip of the shaft (from 15mm to 17mm) and the ID of the hole in the turret (from 19mm to 21mm) vs. all NA/NB 5-speeds and NB1 6-speeds which share the smaller dimensions.

...

To economize on manufacturing our kits, MiataRoadster uses the same 15mm size tip on all shafts and uses proprietary thicker-walled bushings for NB2 6-speeds.
OP, just bring calipers if you want peace of mind.

No OEM bushings will let you mix/match without some modification. It looks like an MR custom (as specced in their kit) tip bushing will let you run an early shifter in a late car, but not vice versa.

So the junk yard sent a 21mm end instead of a 99 to 01 6 speed shifter with a 19mm bushing! They thought it was the same shifter from the same car as the transmission but they got switched around on the cars. And they can't find a replacement. So anyone have one? Again.

OR should I pony up the big bucks and get a Miata Roadster shifter? I do sometimes go from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th by accident on track and it is bad.

I installed the MR shifter yesterday. I'm mad at myself now that I didn't take this more seriously. I love my 6 speed now

Did you get the stock height one? I'm thinking anything that looks significantly different than stock will not go over well when the wife drives it to work.

And I am horrible at making decisions. I just really need to get this car driving again. I have an event soon and the alignment it terrible. Probably out of time for a corner weighting.

Mine is the taller version but swept back 15° instead of angled toward the wheel.

You're in luck, they are on sale saving 10% for the rest of September.
