By the time I get the Begi S with the upgrades I want, I might as well have bought an S1 (or S3) for that matter...
I have looked at the Begi S; I wonder if predetonation (after considering proper fueling and ignition) would be a problem running 5.5-6 psi on the GT2554... My Jackson racing supercharger ran 7-8 psi with a small pulley, but even after being retarded to 6 BTDC with 12.1 air/fuel, it would still predetonate if boost was used repetitively or for a long period of time.
Yeah, I would like something simple and if I could make a reliable 150-160 horsepower without intercooling, I would be happy.
In the past, I had a 97 Miata totally high output. I was running a Bell Series 3 with a GT2860RS turbo, 460 RX-7 injectors, and Megasquirt PNP with MAP sensor. Talk about a beast with 240 rwhp. But with my previous experience, anything around 160-180 rwhp is a real sweet spot for the Miata. Good pull, nice and predictable

Second, I love the look of stainless steel, and if I did get the S series. I would want seperated gas downpipe in stainless steel, powdercoated manifold and exhaust turbine casing, as well as stainless steel oil/water hoses.

Why not intercool it? It's not that hard to install, and if done right, it's dead reliable. You mention you've had problems with detonation before. (was the JRSC intercooled?) Personally, I want a trouble free, set and forget system. Not one that you're constantly worrying "was that a ping, did I hear knock?". I would get the begi stuff unless you can find a deal on a used MSM setup. The MSM stuff will get you to your power goal, sure, but they're known to suck in every way except reliability.

Dang intercooler for the Begi S is 700 dollars. I don't really want to spend alot of money like I did with the S3 setup I had. If I can run 5.5-6 psi non-intercooled without predetonation i'll be happy. I had a 240rwhp car before, I can have just as much fun with 160 rwhp car.

Can you do any DIY work? Can you do a timing belt, or water pump, or change oil, etc? Cause really a DIY intercooler setup isn't that hard to do even for a beginner. You can do a DIY setup for 200-300 buying all new parts. Cost aside, intercooling is the way to go for detonation free reliable power. Sure, if you retard timing enough you'll never detonate without one, but retarding timing makes the engine weak and inefficient, induces overheating, and increases EGT's. Adding an IC is a really good idea for a trouble free, reliable setup. So again, WHY don't you want to intercool it? Is cost the only reason?
