Default WTB 1.8 engine or block

I am looking to buy a 1.8.engine or just the block. I am going to build a forged engine for my 97 Miata so I am fine with just the block or a high mileage engine. If you have just the block that's fine too, I'll just pull the head off mine and slap it on there. I am located in Savannah GA and would prefer to pick it up instead of shipping.

Cheers.

I have a VVT engine, I’m now looking at going Kmiata. However I’m out in AZ! The VVTS are nice blocks because of the thrust bearings being. Bit bigger!

I have an NB1 block in CA for 200 bucks. Not sure how to economically ship it, but I'm open to the idea if you know a way.

Thats definitely what I'm looking for, but also not sure how to ship something like that or if it would cost too much to be worth it.

Yeah, I get it. It's in great condition, pulled from a healthy running car. I only needed the head so I've ended up with an extra bock on my hands. If you investigate and find an economical way to ship it, let me know and I'll happily send it your way.

I have a nb1 block, was on my car before I swapped for a forged block I had built. Ran great before being pulled.

I'm in Jacksonville, a couple hours south of you. Looking for $300 picked up.

I've got a 1.8 block that's taking up space and collecting dust. It might be bored out to 84.5mm (I could measure if interested). I'm just outside of Atlanta FWIW.

Check with Ethan at Valiants racing on waters ave. He may have one he would be willing to sell.

When you get that thing done and dialed in you should try it out at Savannah river dragway. Would be good to have another turbo miata that runs out there occasionally other than me. They are closed for repairs and due to covid scare atm but should open back up sometime next month I hear.

Do you just need the block or the entire bottom end? I have a 99 bottom in Atlanta in good shape but the crank nose keyway is buggered so the timing is off. If you have another crank it would be perfect.

I checked it out, and it's a good news/bad news story.

Bad news: I bought this block from a guy in Chicago-land who was using it as a "science experiment" to find a creative way to deal with blow-by pressure in the crankcase. He literally drilled and tapped holes in the block where the oil drain passages are. There is one hole that has a plug in it that is JB Welded closed, and another that is tapped for 1/2 NPT that can be plugged. I only bought the block from him because I needed a crank and the price was cheap. That might discourage you from going any further. Otherwise, the block is in good shape.

Good news; I've kept the cylinders oiled, so there's no rust in there, and the bore is stock, so you've got plenty of meat to go to 84mm.

I understand if you want to pass on this "opportunity".

I wish I already had my engine pulled. I am heading down to Savannah this weekend. The 96 engine was rebuilt about 40k ago. I think I lost a ring land on the #3 piston on my last track day. Block should be serviceable.

Still looking for a cheap short block for sale! I found a great one for $125 in Indiana but it's a 14 hour drive from Savannah and the seller wouldn't ship.

96 shortblock, missing oil pan and mbsp. Burned an exhaust valve on it yeaaars ago, been sitting in the corner since - bit grimey and oily but bores and crank should be good. 130k on it if memory serves. $150 out in Snellville GA.
