Alternator control
So I take it the Adaptronic is a parallel install or does it have the capability to replace the ECU on a 99/00? Specifically I am interested in alternator control.

Its done in parallel, but like he said you can remove the alternator and swap it. Adaptronic never put the time into developing the alternator control because most people wanted some ability to get at OBDII compliance. Realistically the only thing the stock computer does is a few non-performance oriented things. Those things would be the immobolizer, the alternator, some emissions, OBD port, and the alternator. By removing it you drop a little weight, but thats about the only advantage.

Thats definitely under your control, its in the trigger menu under custom. You have to set the motor type to "custom" before you can access it. If you go in there you can change your dwell to whatever you want.
The Adaptronic controls everything performance, some people look at it kind of like a piggy back but really its more like a standalone that uses the stock ECU as a helper to take care of the stuff thats "not fun."
Best,
Travis

Thanks for the replies. As you might guess I am planning on finally getting rid of the PowerCard and am trying to determine whether Adaptronic or MS is the way I will go. I do agree the Adaptronic in parallel with the stock ECU makes the most sense rather then setting it up as a standalone, no need to complicate things further.
My wife is after me to buy myself a new car for my 60th birthday but I decided I enjoy messing and driving the Miata more than I would posing in a Boxster Spyder so it is time to finish what I started in 2000.
