I am considering doing a v.3 version of my jumper harness based on the DIYautotune "DIYBOB Breakout Adapter - Nippondenso 122 pin."

In order to do this, I will need to source a few parts that I have had a hard time getting in the past. Today I found a website that seems like it will be helpful.

Octopart - Electronic Parts, Electronic Components, Datasheets

Octopart lets you enter a part number and it tells you who has stock on that part. Now that I have found parts, I can proceed with my build order.

These are the parts I will need:Originally I had my adapter harness placing the MS3 under the drivers side dash, and it really didn't fit very well. I feel like I can make a much cleaner setup putting it under the passenger side dashboard.

As I get parts I will update with my build, but to be honest since it is running it's not high on my list. I just wanted to write down the parts list for those who would be interested.

So, I had a motor come up locally for sale that I couldn't pass up:



What are my plans for it?

I haven't decided yet, but one option is to re-use everything but the head and do a rods-only build.

Another possibility is a motor that has all the upgrades like oil pump, pistons, dampener etc. That will cost significantly more. For the time being I have options though, and if something seriously bad happens I have a spare motor. Options are good.

Last night we pulled the head of the spare motor to be shipped off to it's new owner.

Since I had the car out for a bit yesterday I figured I would take a few pictures of how it sits with the TEIN-S springs. Comparing it to stock, I really like how it sits.

Did a pull on the way to work. It was a highway merge so I had to let off but I was interested in seeing my progress.

This is a pull vs my previous best. EDIT: I am running VirtualDyno uncorrected numbers so this is pretty close to what Blaen99 is seeing with his Precision4828 as well with the same boost level.

Upped the boost to 10psi.

I am kinda kidding because we were in highway traffic and neither of us was pushing hard (I don't believe I went above 40% throttle) but it was still fun.

The BMW Z4 (maybe Z4-M?) on the other hand was working far too hard and was putting people in danger. I am glad we all separated when we did.

I installed Mishimoto radiator and fans today. I'll take better pictures in the light tomorrow.

For some reason the pics cane out upside down. Oh well time for sleep.

Well, the Mishimoto radiator doesn't seem to do any better keeping my car cool than the stock radiator, but I blame the ducting. I DO have the undertray but there are a lot of places where air can sneak around without going through the radiator. At least now I won't be sealing up the front of the car twice.

On a side note, I disconnected my wastegate arm yesterday so I could tune the 100kpa part of my map easier. It seems that I hardly ever hit that part of my map anymore and it was full of garbage from when I had my old injectors. Before I got in the car to drive home from work yesterday I was going to reconnect the wastegate since I was happy with how the map smoothed out when I found that the end of the wastegate rod had vibrated off. I guess the lock nut didn't do a good enough job.

So, no boost until I can either borrow one or until the one I ordered arrives Saturday. Bah!

Btw, Mishimoto fans DO rape my idle.

I think my intercooler is improperly positioned and it is blocking too much flow from my radiator. I have not overheated but it hasn't been really hot yet.

Also, I am going to a dyno/tuner on Wednesday. I am going to work with him on getting my closed loop boost control down solid and do a couple runs to see where I am at. I will post the results obviously. If we can get the closed loop boost consistant I am hoping to adjust the tune until I can get to about 240hp. I am willing to pay for up to three hours.

I am not going to have them push it... Underground Autosports... I won't really have them push it power wise because I don't know much about them. I will likely go to RC Autoworks for real power unless these guys impress me. Windy City Miata Club is having a dyno day there on Saturday.

By the way, I had a problem today so I won't be able to make my dyno time tomorrow.

My main relay failed and it took me all night to diagnose the problem. Hopefully I can get in on Thursday or Friday...

Ok, I was tired and distracted last night when I wrote this... Translating:

I am taking it to Underground Autosports in Hoffman Estates. I really don't know much about them other than Windy City Miata Club is having a dyno day there on Saturday. If they impress me I will go for a bit more power. If I am not impressed I will just try and work out boost control and get a couple base line runs in.

RC Autoworks has a pretty solid reputation around here so if nothing else I will go there for big power tuning, but that will likely be after I build the engine, which will mean sometime next year. I also may have Mike Piecko at Red Mist do some work. I have known him for some time now and his shop is like two miles from my house, but he is pretty busy and he doesn't have a dyno so it is only street tunes for now.

I didn't know WCMC was doing a dyno day. Are you going to WCMC's autox on the 26th? I've met Mike several times, he's a fast driver for sure and seems like a good guy. I haven't known anyone to ever use him though. He had offered to help with tuning on my FD.

Yeah, I'll be going to the Autocross on the 26th as well as the "WCMC Presidents tour" on the 27th.

Mike mostly does Subarus but he is planning on building a megasquirt for a honda project he is doing for fun.

Cool, I'm going to tell DieselMiata (Aaron about the WCMC dyno day) he's got his back up and running pulling strong. Is it for members only, can you pm me more info?

It is for members only but worse comes to worse it's $35/yr for WCMC and it gets you $10 off each autocross event.

Look for Windy City Miata Club on facebook. You don't have to be a member of the club to be a member of the FB group. It is listed on their events page.

(I doubt they will turn away non-members especially if you are driving a Miata)

At dyno now.

Tuning open loop boost on the dyno as a starting point. We are up to 30% duty on the EBC.

My last log attached. Somewhere around 197hp, 194lb/ft torque.

Dyno is Dynocom 15000

Final pull brought me to 230hp and 228lb/ft.

I turned down the duty cycle and power to bring it to 220hp and torque. Pics of the plot are coming once I upload from my phone.
