But I haven't lost a single drop of fluid, nothing exploded.
If I had to make a SWAG, I'd say the master seal failed. Instead of sending line pressure down to the slave, it leaks past the piston and runs right back up to the reservoir. I could "pump it up" and build enough line pressure to shift, but it would be all for nothing the next low speed shift, more pumping required. Eventually, all the extra clutch pumping action killed what was left of the seal, now I can't do anything. If it failed like that, I can't see how it would affect the TOB any more than normal operation. Here's hoping!
If I had to guess, I'd say my slave has probably been changed recently, either that or someone just put a stainless clutch line on by itself.
I just got back from the friendly parts store. $50 bucks later I've got a new master, slave, and fluid. Be back on the road shortly, hopefully!
New master and slave fixed the problem, went through nearly 32oz of fluid flushing the lines out. Made a handy dandy lonely person clutch prop stick so I could bleed it alone. That took a while, but it worked. Shifts so much better now.
Next, mazdacomp motor mounts. I can hear my downpipe rattle against my steering shaft under decel sometimes. I used some ratchet straps to keep the motor from rocking as much, and the rattle went away.
Looks like the drivers side will be easy with the turbo manifold, but I should have done the passengers side before I did my reroute lol
Has anyone ever had water behind the front cover from anything other than the water pump? I wouldn't be lucky enough for it to be the front housing, It's gotta be the pump. My overflow sits useless, won't pull coolant back to the radiator at all. I'm hoping that gets fixed when I fix the leak.
I ordered new parts already. I can't wait to see what a mess it is under that cover, it started a week or so after I ran it hot on the highway so it's been leaking for a while now. Not very fast though, I only need to re-fill it once a week. Finally killed my anti-freeze bottle, so figured I ought to do something finally...
Other than that, it's been great. Turbo'd somewhere around 158k, 162.5K on the clock now! I drive the crap out of it pretty much every day and love every minute of it. The quiet exhaust has saved my *** time and time again, or cops just love miatas? Soo many verbal warnings, and finally a written one. Time to slow down for a while lol
Oh, I redid my reroute yet again. Now I am using the cursed water plug to a 3/8NPT T fitting holding my CLT sensor. 5/16 and 5/8 hose barb fittings from the hardware store, because home depot makes the best racecar parts. My heater still works really well, the car warms up great, and I don't have long dangly bits on the front of my motor. I used a freeze plug and a piece of 1/8" bar steel to make a retainer for the plug.
Hose barbs and **** are expensive, should have just bought a rereoute spacer from the start... Only way I'd ever consider doing it this way again is if I pulled the head and tapped it for a 5/8" hose barb. I'd tap the cursed water plug for a 1.9 Saturn CLT plug, since it is 1/8NPT. That would still be cheaper and more robust.
I reinstalled my undertray, again, and made a new heatshield since I finally get 60+ degree weather. It has holes because it's made from the remains of a bitcoin mining rig, its some silly putty 5051 so it's easy-ish to work. I don't know where I found the studded tabs, but they came off the miata at some point. Might rivet more stuff on it later, or just wait till my coolant lines or master cylinder catches fire. I've been lazy and not reinstalled my timing covers since they're a friggen mess, still looking for clean-ish ones for cheap
Can see the fantastic studs that came with the taco manifold in this shot too. I didn't do anything to them, and they haven't fallen out yet. I must drive like a ***** or something. The v-band adapter bolts, those have fallen out several times now but they seem stuck now...
This is a video of a different miata
I think I'm taking my AC out too, if anyone wants any pieces. It still works, or it (probably) will if I go get a belt.
Believe it or not, but that dipstick is already broken! I've performed some surgery on it to help hold the ring on.
I'd of liked to have it behind the shield, but I'll need to pull the heater line that runs along the block to bend it any further out of the way to get some more room. Somehow I managed to pry it to the rear side of the dipstick, but I couldn't get it any further back than that while it's in the car and full of coolant.
The reason I'm thinking about taking the AC out is because I never use it. I wanted to keep it because I got all sorts of messed up at a few mountain peaks in Colorado, rainy and cold all the sudden, my windows went opaque pretty quick. That was really the only reason I wanted it, it was the only thing working to defog the windows. Trying to run the AC up a mountain in the rain with a 1.6 miata is fun though, like a whole 1K of powerband before you have to shift up and outside the powerband again
Turns out I didn't have a thermostat though, so I had not enough heat. I haven't put the belt back on since I turbo'd it, but not had any fogging problems. My oil drain line could stand to be a little cleaner, and I'm thinking it might run a few degrees cooler in load with no AC condenser in the way. Plus my wipers are intermittent, I have to kick at wiring under the dash to get them to come back on. I figure I'll pull the dash and get it all in one shot. Also, racecar haha
Thanks for the complement! I am trying to keep from exploding either my oem clutch or 1.6 VLSD a slight bit
I had one time when I missed AC. It was pouring rain, leaking through the canvas roof and so foggy I couldn't see. Once I got a hardtop I've had fewer problems. After a good rain I put a space heater and fan in the car and let it dry out over night. Get a lot less fogging.
Lots of new things on the way, going to try harder to break things. I still am not trying hard enough apparently.
Ebay radiator, used FM clutch, ebay 10lb flywheel, all the seals, and a EBC solenoid to top it all off. I ordered all the seals, oil, all the bits I should need.
The clutch in my car still never slips, and I have it adjusted all retarded close to the floor with the pedal ran in with the limit switch. I do my best to make it slip in higher gears, but it won't. I can't wait to see what it is...
Very much want torsen, will wait for a good price while continuing attempting to destroy the 1.6 gear.
Cheap rain rail, XTD ebay 10LB flywheel (10lb 15oz) and a 2.5" band butt clamp for a downpipe brace. Also have a china express USB OTG cable in there, but I got tired of waiting and made my own. My phone needs new kernel, then I hope to get MSdroid working over USB...
Pretty sure I found a torsen as well, 4.10 from a 94 with everything I need to put it in. Hope to send dollars tonight or tomorrow for that one, needs torsen badly
Top down weather days are outnumbering the cold, I am so friggen happy
I also had no idea how small miata clutches are, swapping this puppy should be cake!
EBC done, I used evap purge wiring because I am lazy.
Big ebay radiator, plus I removed all the underhood AC stuff finally. I modified the brackets on the side of the radiator to move it forward more since the condenser was no longer there. I have a stock front swaybar and there's no way OEM fans will fit without that mod.
I know it's jank as hell, but I plan to completely redo all the underhood wiring and plumbing here soon.
I've also found my way back into a machine shop, which is awesome. I hope to make miata parts soon
I'm really considering running E85, since there's a station or two in my town, and there's even more in Kansas city. I don't think I need a big fuel pump, since I have stock rods. I even have a old S10 tutu flex sensor, though I think it might be bad...
Injectors kick butt, I'm not using any of them with regular 91. Needs more corn, plus more tune still.
New top time, finally, was easy getting the old one off. Hope I can finish tonight, don't want to have to drive my truck tomorrow. Don't even know if that thing even starts any more, too much miata time.
Oh, mini 17's too. I don't know what it is about these nitto neo-gens, but they plane with hardly any standing water. Do not like, not much fun.
