Default A blasphemous SC build

Hey guys, I wanted to port over my progress from CR. I won't be posting everything, so if you're interested in some unique DIY work, check it out over here.

So. Last year I had a shop called Track Minded Performance in Atlanta, Ga rebuild me a 1995 1.8 motor. The original plan was for me to do the rebuilding at home, but he offered me a price I couldn't refuse, and it just made more sense given that he was also going to do a bunch of machining and resurfacing that I wouldn't be able to do.

So after ironing out the kinks and breaking it in, I took the plunge and started tearing things back apart. Here's the last good photo of it all (mostly) together. Stripe's crooked I know, the whole bumper is temporary plastidip. It was originally a Merlot color from the UK.

The plans:
-MP62 SC
-Flow Force 610 CC injectors
-MSPNP 1.3
-vTPS
-Coolant reroute
-Aluminum radiator
-Custom shaved intake manifold
-No plans for an intercooler (for now)

So why a SC? Nostalgia. Old MOPAR cars and that sweet whine are all part of my childhood. Also, since the SC has a power cap of ~220 HP on stock internals, it's a good way to limit my spending and not go chasing a rabbit down a 500 HP hole.

So anyways, here's some pics...

Custom manifold has been adapted to allow the 1.6 TB to bolt straight on to the 1.8 manifold without the FM spacer, thanks to some creative JB Welding. TB has been reduced as well with a deleted IACV and retrofitted Bosch vTPS

Why not just use an nb throttle body. Do you want a square top? I have both available.

Haven't done any research into anything NB related, but if you can convince me how to attach an NB throttle body and the squaretop manifold onto a 1995 motor, I might bite.

squaretop wont work but the NB throttle body will. you just need to use the pigtails from the NB. It also allows you to run the internal IAC so you dont have to run a hose across the car.

+1, you are probably using a standalone so the NB throttle body and TPS is what you want.

Ah ha, I knew there was a special "adapter" I had to use.

What about my current setup, the 1.6 TB with the Bosch vTPS attached? When I researched the subject last year MT pointed me in that direction. I'll be using the MSPNP 1.3 standalone.

1.6 TB with the bosch is a good solution for 1.6 motor but NOT 1.8 when you have MS. its a silly way to do it.

Well isn't that life. I'll be scouring eBay for the NB throttle body...any year in particular?

I've done some reading on those, and I'm having trouble envisioning where the TPS would mount - does it have those provisions? I can't seem to find any photos of that side of the TB.

Are you planning on dual throttle bodies?? What throttle body are you putting on the inlet side of the SC?

I had an MP62 on my NB1 and it was the reason I went to the turbo. Honestly, a MKTubo kit would be the "easy button" for you.

I have a dummy throttle body. I'll see how it works and if it does, I'll keep it.

However, that was something I was about to ponder myself. When it comes to moving the TB over to the SC side, I'm assuming the NB TB is still the best bet, correct?

Care to share why you went for the turbo?

Normal SC mode is to put dummy TB on the intake, normal TB on the SC intake (use whichever the SC was made for, mine was for 99-00). The idle valve is in a PITA position when installed on the SC and you may want to remote mount it (I think you can still buy a remote mount kit from FFS).

I had it on my car for a couple years and because of bandaids and wanting to move to a MS so I could start to "cure" some of the fuel/timing issues I started to look at alternatives to other issues.

1. Belts were a constant source of headaches
2. Idling/stalling was always on my mind esp. in traffic
3. The MP62 was getting expensive to keep maintained (couplers, bearings, oils etc)
4. Intercooler install on a SC Miata creates other problems where on a turbo install it's a huge help with none of the SC issues

With the turbo I don't have any of those problems and if the turbo ***** the bed I'll throw on a spare I bought ($200) in a couple hours.

And so I kept the TDR intercooler for the turbo install and now have none of the usual maintenance problems I had with the SC. I sold the MP62 for basically what I had into the new turbo kit.

I see you haven't installed an intercooler so will be limited pretty much on the boost you can do because of the heat. Once you install an IC to resolve that limitation your other problems start.
