Thanks man

Well today was a little bit of a bust. I started out with the power steering system and ended up not getting that done. It was mostly a work on other people's projects day. I did a lot of welding for my dad, and some on a buddies manifold. I also put the harness back into place how I want it to sit when the car is actually on the road and I need to lengthen the odd knock sensor wires to reach. Other than that, I'll probably shorten a couple of wires, the harness tucks very nicely in between the rocker covers and the fuel rail. Should be decently clean when all is said and done. Like I said, I mostly worked on other people's stuff today but that's alright. My dad's been wanting to do this beer structure for a couple years and my buddy's paying me to do the manifold. No pictures today since there isn't really much progress to report.

My quart of por15 got here over the weekend, it's semi gloss black cause it was cheaper so it won't match the grey but that's alright cause it's getting painted over anyway, gonna paint the spindles today. Also realized I'm taking a circuits class in spring which might help with wiring but I'm trying to kinda lay out what I need to add to the harness.

On that note does anyone know a good place to find colored wires, like automotive multicolored wires. I did a bit of looking around but all I could find was solid colors and a lot of amp/speakers wiring bullshit. Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong thing.

School started today for three of my classes, one is matlab, the other are labs which is nice cause one is machining and the other is breaking lab. Apparently I'm getting put on the fast track in machining since I'm buddies with the engineering club president. So that's cool. The other three classes start next week, really need to get my work schedule changed around.

painless (after i asked about it) offers labeled wires in assorted colors. so they will say "headlights" and "LF turn". i had to buy one of their universal race car harnesses to get it.

In regards to your diff. I missed which T56 you are using. I ran a C5 base corvette gear set(2.66 1st vs 2.97 1st in the GTO/Z06) with a 3.42 and the car had a very linear pull to atleast 160mph. When I ran the GTO trans with the 2.97 first it made for very busy driving. I would definitely go with a 3.42 if not a 3.23.

And you made the right choice with the Holley, if you need help with it I know someone who has done a write up on the install and base tune

Thanks Johnny and aidandj, that's exactly what I was looking for.

unk577, same gearing, and sounds like everyone is liking the 3.42 so far, that may just be the gear to go with.

Got my spindles painted finally, now they just need a coat over them and then they'll get put on the car, very excited to finally get them on. Really ******* tired of the control arms flopping around and hitting the threads on the shocks. Then I can start fitting the brakes too.

Here was right after I hit it with the metal ready and it's kinda ugly

Here's after paint

Also I got a different clutch and brake spring/rubber damper for my g27 pedals but of course when I tried to update gt6 it fucked up and now I have to re-do every update one at a time. Pretty excited to try them out though because it's really hard to heal toe with a linear spring that's too soft.

They looks so nice sand blasted. I'm going to get mine powdercoated I think. My rears came from a midwest car and they are disgusting.

How did you block off all the stuff on the spindles for sand blasting? just tape?

Yeah, that and just not aiming the sand blaster at it too much since it would rip the tape off like nothing.

Returned my balljoints that didn't fit today, need to just buy some oe ones.

Ok before anything else, if anyone has any objections to a 3.42 say something. I'm about to buy my diff tonight. Turns out it's cheaper than I had previously been quoted which means I can buy the axles from Shandelle this friday and I'm buying the diff tonight. Seriously, if anyone has anything to say, say something.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I got a bit done in the last week, well not that much but some. Last week I got some more welding supplies along with a proper ls7 intake from Johnny. (Thanks again!) got some 1/16th filler rod and some more tungsten along a proper respirator that fits under my mask. Holy **** the new filler rod makes a world of a difference on small thickness stuff. Now all I need is a purge set up so I can actually weld stainless exhaust. I've got a couple side jobs going on my buddies 240 which I'm putting all the money aside for more fab stuff.

The next day I decided to put in the upper balljoints, I still need to do a couple tacks but they're in. From there I put the brakes on. One weird thing was the bolts that came with the kit didn't actually have the right threads. Must have been a packaging error from wilwood because they matched the part number in the instructions but didn't fit. However there was a pair of the same size bolt (with the right thread pattern) for the rears from flyin miata so I ended up using those. I'll have to get four more of those bolts though. Anyway, they went on well other than that.

After that I cut the front bumper support for the ls7 intake. Looks ******* awesome.

One thing to note. I looked over how much I'm spending on this car. It's gonna be rough to get it done in time for much seat time. Soooo I'm gonna shift a little more focus to the go kart since I have't worked on it in a long time. The reasons for this are a)it's cheaper and b)it's cheaper. That's not saying it's not time intensive but I'm honestly $45 into the go kart after I sold stuff from the other one and I probably have only a few hundred to spend on it. That's like a starter and a couple ******* sensors for the miata. I'd really like to get some seat time this year and I see the go kart as one of the best ways to do that, especially cause it'll teach me a lot of car control. Anyway, one of the big projects for it are some new headers. Made a couple bends the other night, still need a couple 90* and one other, but once I get my purge set up these should turn out very nice. The header will go to a 3-1 and then from there I need to figure out some way to quiet it down cause I've run the bike with open pipes and it's a glorious but ear splitting noise.

Oh and uh, trubo?

Jk, it's my buddies 1j turbo he left at my house a couple months back

I have caught up on propping all of your posts in this thread. Please post more.

Aside from that, I seem to have missed what this go-kart is.

turbofan, Thanks for the cats haha

I don't have a recent picture of it as it's a mess of wires while I try to figure out which wire came loose/where I'm picking up resistance since my coils aren't getting enough voltage. Engine ran fine before I removed the harness last time, but the previous owner was a heroin addict and he did some real janky **** so some wires are just hanging loose in the harness and tracking down what matters and what doesn't has been a nightmare. Anyway it's a crg shifter kart chassis that's extended 16 inches with a t595 engine (955cc triumph inline three designed by lotus) strapped to it. Kinda ruins the handling but whatever haha, who doesn't need 130hp in a go kart? The miata is my expensive shiny parts project, the go kart is my cheaper, lots of fab project. I actually kinda enjoy building the kart better because I have a lot more freedom. Currently working on the headers and a new mounting for the oil cooler and radiator. Doing a v-mount set up on the drivers...I guess left side. The exhaust runs to the right.

Also need to run the axle up to our machine shop at school and mill another keyway into it for the sprocket. Other than that I need to get the brakes re-setup, a new push-pull cable for the shifter, new clutch and gas pedal and then it's just some other small fab stuff. Also a new radiator, thinking a small civic radiator. Like I said, not a whole lot of money, mostly just time.

Anyway here's a picture from a while back when I had first gotten the engine mounted, I'll try to get some more soon. Nevermind, the engine isn't even mounted in this picture haha

If so, then I'm REALLLLLYYYYY excited to see this thing running. I love the triumph triple sound.

More cats, sir.

That would be the one! And I got permission to run it at autox in TO, which is why I really wanna have it running as soon as possible haha. And yeah, the triple sound is ******* amazing, they're like nothing else out there.

Well I just tried to order my diff with no success, maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Place didn't have very good reviews anyway, I'll call Shandelle tomorrow to see what his prices are. Even if I go to the local dealer and they price match I'll get bent over by another $80 in tax so it's not really that worth it. I think diff prices have fallen a bit cause last time I talked to him at the end of summer he said he could get me one for a little over 1k plus shipping and I was finding them for 800 shipped this week. Only crappy part is I'm just about as far away as I can be from Florida so shipping ain't exactly cheap. Really excited to get the rear end, tired of putting it off and buying other things. My original plan was to buy the rear end back in November of last year haha

don't add up the costs of the miata. it's the kiss of death. I've spend 50 times the original value of the car. now that it's none it's something i can brag about, like "look how dumb i am"

Johnny, it's not so much I added up the costs, (I already have that in a spreadsheet haha) it's more that I looked at how much I still have to spend!
