Trailering a car to and from events is one of the main reason I've kept my old F150. Nothing like knowing if the car has problems, it can be loaded up. Mike Balek and I were talking yesterday how we need to get down to AMP for an even this fall.

Oh yes, I clearly brought a knife to a gun fight. I knew that was going to be the case though. The show (and many of the "redneck" cars) was heavily sponsored by the companies that sell the hop up parts for American Muscle cars (Detroit Speed, Year One, etc.).

So how do you get on the show? Not that I have anything to throw at a fully built 700 hp "street car."
I may be wrong, and I didn't watch the first episode. But it looks like fully gutted, caged, LS swapped monsters going up against actual street cars with interiors and some bolt on parts.

I offered to bring either the Lexus or the Miata - they chose the Miata. Knowing what I know now, I'm guessing they already had their "import with an american engine" (the LS1 RX7) and had written that into the episode. That RX7 was unbelievably fast and could have likely beat any of the "redneck" cars that were there.
Some of the other contestants got bent out of shape because the show wasn't "fair" or "real". There were a lot of things the producers could do to manipulate the race results - control which car started on the inside, allow the "redneck" car to jump the start and not call it, add a pro driver behind the wheel, etc. Not sure what these dudes were expecting - we all know reality TV isn't REAL!

no i understand all that. i have a hard time watching any shows anymore. I used to actually like Pawn Stars, but now they try to interject fake scripts/stories into the show and it's completely retarded.
It used to be, hey we bought this cool all gun, here's some history facts about it, let's go blow things up.
now it's all, hey we are all fat and have a hard time breathing, watch us attempt to makeup a storyline and pass out from using our brains too hard.

Yeah- I think it all comes down to people who watch TV and those who don't. TV being the lot of stuff you would find by default. I suspect those who were competing probably watch those reality shows and actually thought this was some kind of real competition. And have not competed in a sanctioned event. Of course that doesn't guarantee fairness either. Nothing does. In the end Nick has something he can put on his driver bio that shows he's marketable.

Had a few more shots of my car on last night's episode. It's mint green, Reep, mint f-ing green!
Last night's episode was actually decent - import won $10k (GTR = of course), and one of my childhood heroes (John Schneider/ "Bo Duke") was on the show. I can't believe he was there the same day I was and I didn't get to meet him! I was sequestered in the alternates tent.
Some of these guys acted like this was a DOT-funded Harvard study to finally answer the age old question of whether or not American cars or imports are faster. Guess what dudes - it's for entertainment only!
Would anybody watch "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" if the adults came and kicked the little kids asses every time? Of course not - that's the rub. Same here - even the title suggests that the American cars are at a disadvantage, which is why it is supposed to be shocking when they win.

Wow, it's been a while. Not all that much new on the car - blew up my motor at Atlanta Motorsports Park last May due to oil starvation (motor was a fresh rebuilt too....damn). Picked up another motor immediately, but with a new baby in the house I struggled to find the time to work on the car. Finished the car up a few weeks ago and took it to the track this weekend.
Here are a few pics:
