Still just kicking around ideas for what to do next. I'll be spending my days off in December stripping the tub and labeling everything.
We are EXTREMELY lucky it didn't go on its lid. It's hard to tell from the pic, but from the road there is about a 15 food near-vertical drop we went off. The car was completely airborne -- no marks til the bottom of the hill. There is dirt ON TOP of the driver rear QP. I really don't understand how it could have happened that way, and from inside the car I was sure we had gone upside down.
Miraculously, the hardtop emerges unscathed, again!
We feel extremely grateful. There are many places on that road that have huge, huge dropoffs. There was a creek less than 20 feet past where we came to a stop. We missed big trees by about 15 feet and a smaller tree by inches. There was a gap in on coming traffic so despite crossing the oncoming lane, no car-to-car collisions.
Some grief is starting to set in -- I put a lot of work into this car and was becoming quite attached to it. But dad will be OK and I will too. And now I can do something different and/or new if I want.
Still sucks tho. Thanks for all the comments, guys.

I don't want to feel that way about my car for a long time.
The important thing is how lucky you are to come out ok, especially after you described the scenario/environment of the crash. A roll would have introduced a lot of whiplash.
Don't dwell too long though on the bad. My mindset on how I run my bakery, make decisions, and approach issues is to put all my mental energy towards the solution, not the problem. Helps get your brain out of the self pity factor, and more get the ball rolling.
Let me know if you need any help with anything.

I've been following this thread as an example of what to do.
This incident, not so much. Glad to hear no one was hurt.
Pacific North wet.
On the bright side perhaps this incident is reinforcing that one shouldn't drive high horse power cars in the wet.
Therefore, you should take heed, and follow the karmic advice:
Catfish or Exocet
This way you will be less inclined to drive in the wet...
.......just tryin to help.....

Man ... I can still not believe this ..... I got to drive this thing on low and high boost and the short gear ratios made it tricky ... No boost.....crazy boost spike and immediately shift ... The car very neutral too ... I will miss this thing by far one of the best cars I have ever driven .. But the most important thing is that you are ok and your dad ... I need to see the car but most likely the chassis I warped .. And yeah the car is done and we need to surrender the title that way nobody will ever use that chassis ....

There's really no other way to do it besides cutting it up. Makes the biggest mess in your garage, especially when the sawzall goes through the windshield.
But with my in-laws trunk parked in the driveway, I went from having an almost unmaneuverable garage to SO MUCH SPACE in about an hour or two.
I was building Ryan's VVT at the time, so I had that on a stand, plus the MSM, 6-speed, etc etc. All in my single car garage.

Only around $100. I made a HUGE mistake the first run and dumped all my aluminum in the steel scrap, which probably would of doubled the profit of the first run and been closer to $150. I also gave Ed the passenger quarter panel to ironically replace his.

*ahem* sold, but yeah, not sure what I'm going to do with that now.
Can always consider that. Going to go see the car tomorrow and get it out of the yard.
Don't yell at me, my choices were very limited on Thanksgiving night about where I could have the car taken.

God damn Ed!
I'm just glad to hear you and your Dad made it out OK, because that's the important part. Ego may be a little bruised and the car banged up, but walking away is the important part.

GEICO is kicking *** right now. With one phone call (albeit a long one, about an hour, but that's to be expected) I made our insurance statement, arranged for medical reimbursement for my dad's ER visit, got the original tow covered and arranged another tow to my house, as well as the storage fees over the last five days, all at no cost to me. Also they began the process of assigning an adjuster who I will hear from by tomorrow.
One phone call. Can't hardly believe it.

Ouch. :(
Glad to hear you guys are ok, though.
If it were me... i'd be really stupid and refuse to let this damn car beat me. And it would see the road again. Looking even more haggard. What better way to give a huge finger to the MSM community AND miata.net at the same time?
You seem to have inadvertently solved what i hated about our MSM: It was too damn nice. I didn't have the heart to treat it like the dirty ***** it should have been.

With the way the trunk snapped open, I doubt the chassis damage is fixable, even if he REALLY doesn't care about looks.
The last accident had a curb and tree, both harder than mud, but no 15ft RallyX jump. And that required the entire RR and FR suspension replaced, along with the front subframe, with damage to the frame rails and underbracing obvious but usable. This most likely crinkled the floor pan front frame rails, like the stuff that the subframe bolts to.
