Yup. Actually we did the first two cylinders not WOT, then remembered and did them again -- no difference. It was also done with nothing connected to the TB though so maybe that's why WOT made no difference.

yup. gonna have Josh pull the head and see what's inside. As is I'd have to sell it for a value of an engine that needs a full rebuild. Maybe when we pull it down it'll be something as simple as a head gasket, or just head gasket and rings.

Well, here's a small turn of events.
KMVguy something parted out a 10AE and he has the shell left.
Ooo. 10AE.
full roller for cheapsies, no interior.
MSM interior and drivetrain in a 10AE?
YES PLEASE.
It's on. Hope he still has it by this weekend, if so, I'm going up to seattle to get it.

Well it's a long ways from free, but it's a roller so I'm totally cool paying a fair price for it. I think it's still a great deal, and even though it's a super high mile chassis (199k) it doesn't really matter... All my MSM goodies would go in it.
...Except the turbo kit, probably, for now. Who knows. The plan would be to pull my motor and get it to Curly for refreshing while I finish the MSM partout, then move the parts over to the 10AE and have josh install and finish it up.

I like your plan.
Best part of the 10ae, color -check
best part of the drivetrain, msm - check
I would probably just keep it turbo but turn down the boost and under no circumstances touch it until a much later time, but that's just me. why spend money to convert a car BACK to n/a. It'd be different if you already had n/a stuff.

Your motor has to get in line behind my motor.
If you want to use my header/downpipe/midpipe for a season before putting on the turbo you are welcome to. Just be aware there is no cat in the cat. For all the flow.

Also, what ECU are you running? I think (but don't trust my word here) the MSM and the 99/00 use the same ECU connector but the pinouts are different.
Man, this is really starting to sound do-able

Nope, prolly going NA. I need to get to enjoy the car with less power and really learn what Miatas are all about. Then I'll buy Richard's rotrex kit when he finally decides he wants big boy torque.
BUT... We will just see how it goes.

Who the hell knows, man. The way I see it, a BP + rotrex is a lot like a K swap only way less work and way cheaper (since I already have the built BP).
Plan is to:
-finish disassembly of MSM
-acquire shell/new car, hopefully the 10AE
-send motor to josh for refreshing
-drive a slow Miata for at least a year and learn how to drive.
After that, the plan is foggy.

Oh snap Ed is throwing down. All I got to say is my car has met no trees and no ditches and no embankments.
When I bought the car it was on 205/50R16 generals that I kid you not had rs3-on-snow levels of grip in the rain. Before boost, stock power, I could break the tires loose AT WILL in second or third if the pavement was wet. Going to work one morning, took the 26W-->217 ramp at reasonable normal non-hooligan speeds, and unexpectedly drifted it for about 5 seconds. Nothing but concrete walls to meet there. Bout crapped my pants. Changed those tires that weekend.
I like my brotrex. It can take me to 300hp. It will not shatter my trans. Well, maybe if I tubbed the car and put huge slicks on it and dumped the clutch like an *** at the strip. Otherwise, it isn't going to break the trans.
