The recurring theme is driving a peaky, torque-spiking turbo car in the rain with crappy tires and inexperienced drivers. If I had been driving it wouldn't have happened again. Not because I'm a better driver but because I know how easy it was to spin out and I drove it with kid gloves in the rain (except on hairpin, low-speed corners... Then it was intentional, controlled drifting )
Really though..m the plan would be to just enjoy the car on the track for a few years, learn how to drive properly like Curly was saying. In the meantime would be prepping for V8.
I love turbo cars but the power is just not linear enough. I'm sure I could learn to ccontrol it someday but I'm a long way off from that and I want a V8 again. A bit of delayed gratification is all. And hopefully over the next few years I can just enjoy the car instead of having to deal with an engine putting out three times the power it was originally designed for.
We will see how log that plan lasts. I don't like slow cars, ha.

lulz. Dad has no money to buy me a car. It wasn't his fault. I shouldn't have insisted he drive my car in the rain... and I DID insist.
Thankfully the insurance company is buying me a car

Haven't finalized the buyback yet. Waiting on final word so I can, in turn, give final word to Mr. Soot.
I've ridden in Erat's car back when it was just a regular 'ol 1.8 with an FMII setup on it. Loved it. There's a fairly good chance I would do something like that between stock 1.8 and V8

Hold the phone here.
You want a track car to beat on and learn to drive, so your solution is a gorgeous widebody that's going to be hideously expensive to repair when you tear it up?
And turbo power is too much for you to handle right now, so your solution is do a V8 swap?
Man.... i love you.
But you're ******* crazy.

Seriously though. I've done some figuring, and looking at different options. I can either go buy some stock NA with no goodies on it, or I can buy this with all the goodies on it which allows me to sell many of my current goodies. Financially, this vehicle will cost less for me to purchase than some stock NA, even a cheap one.
Also, the turbo power isn't too much to handle at all. It's the power delivery that is the culprit. And remember, the V8 swap is not happening now, it's a few years down the road, if it does actually ever happen. That will depend on a lot of things, like CSTG. It's the eventual plan, not a build for this winter.

I understand the financial advantage of potentially buying this car now... i'm all about buying other projects to take the best of both parts supplies and sell the rest.
But are you going to be able to deal with the wear and tear on this gorgeous car in a track setting? I'D be ok with it... but will you?
Are you ready to replace an entire fiberglass quarterpanel instead of just beat it out with a hammer?

Yes. I still find my MSM considerably more attractive, and though it hurt a little inside when I bumped into that guy in the parking lot at MRLS, I came to realize it's a track/weekend/fun car, not a show car. I see Curly's miata and love it. it's got plenty of little body/paint imperfections/dings/chips but it's fantastic.
That sounds like it sucks. I don't know. I'll figure it out I've got a guy who does very inexpensive body work.

I will be looking forward to that greatly. It is going to take GREAT restraint to not mount my turbo on this car and just run really low boost.... It'll just be sitting there looking lonely....
There's some damage to the passenger front fender that's going to require repair. Here are some pics:
Looks pretty bad, may well need a new fender. I'm somewhat concerned about this, but hey, it takes care of some of the "too nice" aspect of things. I'm interested in it because awesome parts and decent car, not because it's a cream puff.

I guess worst case if I decide I want to go stock body I can always buy a stock car and steal some of the goodies and sell the widebody to some stance-a-holic around here.
Thing is, I'm going to be in california after new year's anyway, i've already bought the ticket (and the return ticket, but it's only $130 so I'm willing to give it up to get the car).
Iono. Sounds pretty good to me. Start a Miata collection.

Ah yes, but I have no need for a daily driver since I have one provided to me by work. I can't complain about getting to drive nearly-new Mazdas daily, so no daily driver provision needed.
Josh, what do you mean about the quarter panel? That's on the passenger side front fender.
ANYWAY.... more progress coming I think this is going to make a LOT of sense looking at the big picture.
