Rebuild all the salvage Miatas! ASS!
#1042
I lusted after an s2000 ever since they came out. Then I drove one, and realized I hate driving it. Mostly the lack of torque, and if I'm getting low 20's mpg in a street car, it better have some grunt to it. If you like revving out, or if this is more track car than street car, you'll probably love it. It was also surprisngly cramped inside. Plenty of leg room length wise, but narrower than a miata width wise for both seating and legroom. Being a short/wide person that didn't really work for me. You're very similar IIRC (thought likely skinnier )
The AP2's look..........amaziing. Simply amazing
Honda simply did a marvelous job designing that car.

Yeah, S2000 is great on track. But given your propensity to like LS motors and grunt in general . . . not so sure you're going to like it long term.
The lack of interior width is due to that huge, wide, structural transmission tunnel. You give up interior room, but the chassis rigidity is awesome. Compromises . . . .

Thanks guys. Yes I'm aware of all of those things.
It's funny... The one thing I'm most apprehensive about is no longer being a Miata owner
The car is a 2000 in white with red interior, no soft top, no a/c, includes hardtop, running a standalone EMS (AEM of some sort). 60k miles, clean title, for $6k.
I'm about to leave my house now.

Vlad is right, though.
Wow. S2000's just have a solidity to them that a Miata just can't match. HOWEVER... This sucker was BEAT. I expected it to be rough, but boy was it rough.
The reason I'm not a Honda owner right now though: Yes it's got a "clean" title. But you see, the original owner put it into a wall in 2003 resulting in structural damage, according to Carfax (good thing I can pull my own Carfaxes since I work at a dealership). This owner bought it from a guy in California when he lived in Arizona. As many of you probably know, as soon as you register a car in Arizona the title gets scrubbed. It probably had a rebuilt title which was scrubbed, and now has a clean Arizona title.
Either way, it went from being work $12k+ cleaned up to being worth the same $8 or $9k, maybe 10 to a sucker, if it's cleaned up. And if you're going to clean this car up, well, might as well start over.
So... No.
BUT... A nice NA8 with some seam welding and bracing and a K24 in it seems like it would be positively YUMMY.

If you say n/a Miata i'll kick you right in the dick. Through the internet. I'll kick you that hard.
mid-high 20s is more like my buddy has gotten over 80k miles in his 2002. Sure if you drive like a moron all the time, it's going to get shitty gas mileage.

Lack of torque compared to.....? A tractor? A diesel? A Corvette?

Everyone says the rx8 lacks torque, but holy crap the one Ed let me drive felt like way more torque than I'm used to in my DD vvt.
Ed, I rebuilt scott's with a fully balanced rotating assembly, it's so smooth. Just choked off with the stock ecu, begging for a MS.
Gorgeous black, just needs new carpet. Has a new heater core
Crank scraper, exintake, awr sway bar mounts, vvt pistons, etc. there's a build thread for the engine on CR.

The issue is Vlad, the S2k feels soft below 4k because of how hard it gets (and how hard it makes Concealer) above 6500. If you raced a stock S2k vs. a stock NB2 and shifted them both at 6500 RPM the S2k should still beat it handily.
