So I'm at the Omnibus station waiting for my bus back into Mexico when these three dudes come rolling up asking about my ticket and ID. I'm like ok, no problems, here is my ticket.... Oh? Ok here is my ID... Oh? Oh no, I'm sorry I don't consent to any searches of me or my stuff... And it's on.. They "got one" it seemed..

"Every cop turned around and started unloading like super trigger happy as if their training was coming into full effect and they were being able to utilize it," said Cleerdin. "Everybody was just blasting this car to pieces. It was absolutely terrifying."

"Cops are shooting from the front of the car, back into the rest of the on-coming traffic to the check point, into the rest of the innocent civilians down the road," said Cleerdin.

"It was way beyond reckless," said Cleerdin. "I couldn't believe it. These are professional people, professional officers, and they're training, they're highly trained and they're not supposed to do stuff like that."

The suspects' car allegedly was driven toward a police officer which caused every officer to open fire.

wo Brooklyn cops sideswiped a parked SUV, then arrested a man sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle, accusing him of damaging their car, a suit charges.

And the officers would have gotten away with their lie — had the whole bizarre drama not been caught by a security camera.

A Chicago police officer slapped a man’s camera and threatened to arrest him for disorderly conduct because he had video recorded her car after she parked it on the side of a road in what appears to be a bustling commercial area of the city.

The officer was in full uniform, but the car she was driving, appeared to be her personal car instead of a department-issued car. She had a couple of shirts strewn upon the dashboard, so the man asked about them.

She responded by telling him he was not allowed to record her car, telling him it was “illegal.”

When the man stood up for his rights, telling her it was not illegal, she slapped the camera, a move that would have gotten anybody else killed had they done it to her.

She ordered him to cross the street, to “go on about your business,” telling him she would arrest him for disorderly conduct, which is your usual contempt-of-cop charge.

It is not clear when the incident took place because it appears to be spring or summer instead of winter but it was uploaded a few days ago to a Youtube channel called PoliceBrutalityDOTus, which reposts these types of videos, so it could have been posted elsewhere earlier, but I’d never seen it until today.

Apparently, Rojas wasn't done with feeling "violated" by Thomas' filming. According to PINAC's Facebook page, Officer Rojas filed a privacy complaint asking YouTube to remove the video. YouTube, fortunately, turned his request down, which means that Rojas will now have to deal with a recording that contradicts (or severely weakens) many of the claims he made in his sworn statements (the arrest report).

As PINAC and Thomas point out, the obstruction charge is especially baseless, given Thomas' distance from the officers (approx. 30 feet compared to the report's "close proximity") and the fact that the entire situation appears to be completely under control by the time Officer Rojas arrives. Rojas seems to be the only cop there who viewed Thomas and his camera as somehow interfering with police business. Rojas then abandons his "partner" -- who is presumably dealing with an actual criminal -- solely to harass someone with a camera. If nothing else, Rojas has problems with prioritizing, giving the non-criminal (and protected) act of filming precedence over an actual law enforcement work.

Officer Rojas had multiple paths to take when he noticed a citizen filming him performing his public duties in a public place. Unfortunately, he decided to take the well-worn path and violate the rights of the photographer. And like many others, this decision has done nothing more than heap more negative publicity on the police department and the officer involved. The correct response -- ignore it and do your job -- still remains largely untested.

A man who was framed by a rogue detective and served 23 years in prison for a murder he did not commit will receive $6.4 million from the City of New York in a settlement that came before a civil rights lawsuit was even filed, lawyers involved in the case said on Thursday.

A $150 million claim filed last year by the man, David Ranta, was settled by the city comptroller’s office without ever involving the city’s legal department — which the lawyers involved in the negotiations described as a “groundbreaking” decision that acknowledged the overwhelming evidence the city faced.

The comptroller’s quick acceptance of liability in the high-profile conviction is also significant because the case is the first of what is expected to be a series of wrongful conviction claims by men who were sent to prison based on the flawed investigative work of the detective, Louis Scarcella, who has been accused of inventing confessions, coercing witnesses and recycling informers.

Barbour County Sheriff John Hawkins resigned Thursday and pleaded guilty to a federal charge that he staged an automobile accident to receive an insurance payment of nearly $8,300.

The 47-year-old Philippi resident entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in Elkins to a mail fraud charge.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld said Hawkins admitted to staging the accident last April. With the help of one of his deputies, he fabricated a claim to Nationwide Insurance.

The prosecutor says a review found inconsistencies in Hawkins story about the accident. Photos taken by an insurance adjuster and information from the vehicle's data recorder contradicted his version of events.

Hawkins used his office email account to communicate with Nationwide about the claim, which was paid last year.

“This person absolutely took something that was as simple as ‘Austin Police – Stop!’ and decided to do everything you see on that video,” Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said at a press conference Friday, according to Austin NPR station 90.5 KUT. “And quite frankly she wasn’t charged with resisting. She’s lucky I wasn’t the arresting officer, because I wouldn’t have been as generous. … In other cities there’s cops who are actually committing sexual assaults on duty, so I thank God that this is what passes for a controversy in Austin, Texas,” Acevedo said.
