A NYPD detective assigned to the Gun Stoppers reward program submitted bogus paperwork to try to get a $1,000 reward, prosecutors said Thursday.

A glum-looking detective John Malloy, 46, pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of second-degree forgery and attempted petit larceny in Manhattan Supreme Court.

“There was indeed an unlawful firearm recovered in Brooklyn in in November 2012 [BUT]there was no tip that tied to that arrest,” said Assistant District Attorney Ryan Connors.

“The defendant used his position and forged several papers in attempt to claim the reward himself.”

Connors told Justice Ronald Zweibel that Malloy “forged the name and signature of his fellow detective so when it came to light, that detective was investigated for this crime.”

A Greensboro police officer was arrested on suspicion of stealing business checks from his former employer.

Officer Cameron Alexander Brafford, 22, was charged Wednesday with larceny by employee, two counts of forgery, two counts of uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretense.

The alleged offenses involve Brafford's former employer in Denton, Greensboro police said. Police in Denton notified Greensboro police of the alleged incidents on Tuesday, and both agencies worked together on the investigation.

Brafford is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

A teen’s evening excursion for ice cream resulted in her going to the hospital in a neck-brace, after police found her and her friends in public just a few minutes past the government-imposed curfew for minors.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014, when 17-year-old Merceedez Wright and her friends decided to finish their evening with a stop for dessert.

It was just past 10:00 p.m., the hour in which the town of Clairton (pop. 6,700) had arbitrarily declared that people under the age of 18 must not be found in public under penalty of law. The ordinance (and all such curfews) directly violates the individuals’ right to travel and peaceably assemble.

Wright says she and her friends started walking away, but returned to pick up a purse and cell phone that had been left behind. Officers reportedly put her friend in a cruiser, and Wright says she tried to walk away, but was stopped by an officer.

Bryon Clifford, who witnessed the incident, said, “She kept walking. He got out, started chasing her, and once I seen her running around the corner about five seconds later, I hear her screaming at the top of her lungs.”

Wright says she admits that she ran from police saying she was scared by the way the officer got out of the car.

“They both just tackled me to the ground and smushed my face into the ground, and their feet and legs, and they start pulling my hair, pushing me and stuff,” Wright added.

Ms. Wright’s injuries were serious and she remains in the hospital. Her mom said that she’s experiencing problems with her lungs, among other things caused by the rough handling of the girl by police.

"Unbelievable," veteran criminal defense attorney Pat McCann said after I asked him to read the document. "When she went in there, Mr. Brown had an alibi. When they were finished browbeating her with her children, he didn't. That's the single biggest misuse and abuse of the grand jury system I have ever seen."

Miami-Dade County taxpayers will pay $600,000 to the families of three men who were shot to death in a botched police sting in the Redland three years ago, despite police claims that the shootings were justified.

Without admitting liability, the county has agreed to pay $240,000 each to representatives of Antonio Andrew and Roger Gonzalez Sr., and $120,000 to the survivors of Jorge Lemus, according to documents provided today by the county attorney?s office. The family of a fourth man killed -- informant Rosendo Betancourt -- did not join in the settlement as they continue to press their wrongful death and civil rights lawsuit in federal court.

TOMPKINSVILLE -- The NYPD has taken the gun and badge away from the officer who placed Eric Garner in a chokehold during an arrest attempt on Staten Island.

The NYPD announced Saturday night that Officer Daniel Pantaleo, an 8-year veteran, was been placed on "modified assignment," pending the outcome of the dual probes by the district attorney and Internal Affairs.

Dallas police have confirmed that three officers shot and killed the homeowner who had fatally shot a burglar.

Officers responded to a call in the 10300 block of Plummer Drive in Far East Dallas. Witnesses said they saw a homeowner shoot and kill Jerry Hale in the alley. The suspect was evidently trying to break into the homeowner’s residence. Police arrived to find the armed man standing over the burglar’s body in an alley, police said.

They stopped an ambulance from entering the alley because the homeowner was still armed. Officers gave “loud verbal commands” to drop the gun. After he refused, they shot him multiple times, police said.

He died from his injuries. The homeowner has not been identified.

Upon arrival, police dash camera video obtained from a Freedom of Information Act request recorded an officer saying, “The only thing I’m going to do is shoot it. I do not like dogs. I don’t do snares. I don’t do dogs. I’ll shoot the <expletive> thing” and “I’m gonna shoot it anyway.” Approximately 20 minutes later, Police shot Lexie three times in front of the owner’s grandfather, who immediately refuted the Police claim that Lexie charged at them.

A 9 year old boy calls 911 several times but is unable to speak and just lets the phone line stay open. You can hear horrible verbal abuse going on in the background.

At one point you can even hear the mother and the boyfriend talk about how the 9 year old, Omaree, should be able to handle the type of physical abuse they have just dished out.

But when the dispatcher tries to tell the would-be responding officer, her pleas go unanswered.

According to KOAT, the 911 dispatcher told the officers that what she heard on the call was bad. She said, “You need to hear the 911 call to hear how bad it was. I can play it for you over the phone.”

Albuquerque Police Department Chief Allen Banks said the dispatcher was upset.

“Our dispatcher actually tries to reach out to the officer and say, ‘Hey, listen to this 911 tape. It’s disturbing. (It) sounds like verbal abuse.’ And the officer never listened to the 911″

A home invasion and robbery in Pasco County, Florida is exposing the myth of the 911 dispatch system.

It happened earlier this week on Gwain Road in Port Richey. A man called 911 after four robbers with guns broke into his home, demanded money and prescription drugs, according to My Fox Tampa.

The dispatcher tried to transfer the call from the fire department to law enforcement side of things – but he got a voicemail just as the crooks returned to the home.

Chaos ensues. Luckily this man takes matters into his own hands and shoots one of the robbers and the home invaders flee.

A common response to the question of “Why do you pay taxes?” usually includes something about roads, military, and police. The response is normally along the lines of, “well if we didn’t pay taxes, who would protect us and do the job of the police?”

San Diego police are under close scrutiny after accidentally shooting a homeowner who called 911 after allegedly seeing a man in a ski mask prowling the neighborhood.

While searching for the man, police entered the backyard of the woman’s home, San Diego County sheriff’s homicide Lt. Larry Nesbit explained. There, they made contact with the homeowner and, horrifyingly, shot her.

While police say Jennifer Orey was struck in the arm, her family maintains otherwise.

“You know what, you guys need to get your story straight,” Dennis Morgan, the woman’s father, admonished. “She wasn’t shot in the arm she was shot in the chest.”

Her sister-in-law added: “Part of a bullet ricocheted off and hit her in the pinky, and they also had to do a little bit of repair to her pinky as well.”

Orey successfully underwent surgery Monday, and is expected to be okay.

When Tony Arambula managed to corner an armed intruder in his son's bedroom he expected police to come to his aid.

Instead, a Phoenix police officer confused Arambula for the intruder and shot him six times before realizing his mistake, a moment captured on the 911 call with a simple "F**k."

Even after realizing their mistake, Arambula said he was treated roughly, being dragged out of the house and transported briefly on the hood of a police car.

Now Arambula, 35, who survived but faces a lifetime of pain, is suing the city of Phoenix and the officers who responded to his house that night.

The lawsuit, filed in Maricopa County Court, alleges that Phoenix Police Officer Brian Lilly and his on-scene supervisor, Sgt. Sean Coutts, quickly conspired to cover up the mistake, not realizing that 911 was still recording Arambula's call for help.
