From a business perspective, it's the best possible thing. As in the daytime, women 25-54 are the key demographic for morning news. These are the highly coveted stay-at-home-moms who make the majority of the household purchasing decisions. You pull anything higher than a one share with these ladies and you can demand blow jobs from the national ad agencies.

We do cover hard news in the early blocks (which includes things like police brutality, political corruption, etc), but assuming no breaking news, the later blocks (7-9a, leading into Springer) are mostly soft stuff. Gossip, celebrities, guests in the studio, the cooking segment, etc.

We honestly don't have a political agenda in commercial TV news. We air whatever will attract the biggest and most desirable audience.

Is it just me or does this fellow contradict about them having any idea that there were children in that house?
He said that the mother and kids would hide in the back of the house when drug transactions happened.
Oh well, SOP to just lie. I suppose it is only testalying when it is done under oath.

Quote:
Luce and some friends decided to try a different approach to the law by wearing t-shirts that together spelled “IMPEACH” on one side and “OBAMA” on the other while standing on the interstate overpass.

On October 24, 2013, Campbell police threatened Luce with a ticket for this demonstration. Luce filed a federal suit in February, stating that the law violates his rights to free speech and assembly.

The lawsuit rubbed police chief Tim Kelemen the wrong way.

...

In January of this year Luce discovered someone had used his name and email address to register him on pornography and dating websites and on healthcare.gov.

The town of La Crosse police launched an investigation into the incident.

Through the investigation La Crosse police found that the internet addresses used to register Luce on these sites were from the town of Campbell and chief Kelemen’s home computer.

When La Crosse police realized the potential conflict of interest they sent the investigation to Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

During a May 27th interview between Kelemen and investigators, Kelemen initially lied and said he had no idea about the solicitations made on Luce’s behalf.

Once he was told that police already new that he was involved he recanted his denial and confessed to the activity.

...

When watching the above video, the nonchalant attitude of the investigating officer in response to the chief lying tends to confirm the ‘protect your own’ mentality of police and the subsequent special treatment that goes along with it.

Had Kelemen been your average Joe, he’d likely be facing charges for impeding an official investigation or obstruction of justice.

Instead, the lying is dismissed and the discussion immediately changes to how they will be able to beat these charges.

It is disheartening, to say the least, to witness such brazen special privilege.

Ironically Kelemen uses an excuse that he would have likely laughed at if it were given to him, by stating that he “didn’t know (his actions) were illegal.”

The investigation is currently underway and judging from this video, we can predict that Kelemen will receive little more than a slap on the wrist.

“I have never experienced when a police chief or a police department, even though they were being harassed, turned around and violated the law themselves,” Luce’s attorney, Richard Thompson said. “This impacts our federal suit. It is intimidating to Luce that the chief of police is taking these kinds of bizarre actions because he doesn’t like the fact that Luce filed a lawsuit.”

DA clears officers involved in fatal May shooting : Wsj

Quote:
Two Madison police officers shot and killed a woman in her Far East Side apartment last month as she held a loaded gun to her head and ignored commands to drop the weapon, according to Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne.

Because her gun could have been quickly turned toward officers and fired, Ozanne said Monday, Officers Justin Bailey and Gary Pihlaja were justified in using deadly force against 26-year-old Ashley DiPiazza.

“The officers were compelled to use deadly force when faced with a suspect armed with a firearm not responding to commands,” Ozanne said.

On June 3, 2014 I was summoned to jury duty in Chelan County Superior Court. I looked for lockboxes that were accessible for me to lock up my weapon in a secure location, or an officer that could take my weapon and secure it for me. RCW 9.41.300 mandates that the courthouse provide a lockbox to secure my weapon. I was told by court Corrections Officer and the Sheriff's Deputy Campus Security Officer that they are not responsible for my weapon in any way and that I could lock it in my vehicle. Notice I never claimed to have my weapon physically with me inside the courthouse, I simply asked for a place to secure my weapon.

I informed them that state law mandates they provide a lockbox or an officer to secure my weapon and I was called a "douche", "idiot" and a "dirtbag" simply for pointing out their failure to abide by the law. After failing to provide me with a lockbox the officers physically grabbed me, removed me from the room and physically shoved me out of an elevator. Being that I'm required by law to complete my jury duty I had no choice but to go back, at which time I was told that I lost my "right" and "privilege to serve on jury duty" simply because I asked them to follow the law.

RCW 9.41.300 reads: "In addition, the local legislative authority shall provide either a stationary locked box sufficient in size for pistols and key to a weapon owner for weapon storage, or shall designate an official to receive weapons for safekeeping, during the owner's visit to restricted areas of the building. The locked box or designated official shall be located within the same building used in connection with court proceedings. The local legislative authority shall be liable for any negligence causing damage to or loss of a weapon either placed in a locked box or left with an official during the owner's visit to restricted areas of the building."

Judge challenges attorney to courtroom brawl: 'Let's go out back' | Detroit Free Press | freep.com

Quote:
Tensions erupted in a courtroom Monday when a judge challenged an assistant public defender to "go out back and I'll just beat your ***."

Public Defender Blaise Trettis said Judge John Murphy grabbed Assistant Public Defender Andrew Weinstock and punched him in the head.

Video of the incident was released to Florida Today.

In the video, Murphy and Weinstock exchange words about a case after Weinstock refuses to waive one clients' right to a speedy trial.

...

Murphy responds: "You know if I had a rock I would throw it at you right now. Stop pissing me off. Just sit down. I'll take care of it. I don't need your help. Sit down."

"You know what? I'm the public defender I have a right to be here and I have a right to stand and represent my clients."

"I said sit down. If you want to fight lets go out back and I'll just beat your ***."

...

"The lawyer said as soon as he got in the hallway the judge grabbed him by the collar and began punching him in the head," Trettis said. Trettis said Weinstock tried to stop the blows, and courtroom bailiffs came into the hallway and pulled the two apart.

It is - I found the whole video and added the link.
More than for the push I would wish him longer than even just a few year sentence for the lame repositioning that the idiot was attempting. I suppose he was in a panic mode and not able to think all that clear when he attempts to arrange the scene to appear better.
I suppose there is no way to find who deleted the seconds before the push. - One would think that cops ought to get many years for trying to cover misbehavior even if the actual crime were minor.

Here is related of one of his buddies turned on him. I don't expect it was that the guy suddenly grew some integrity but knew he was in a spot. Maybe when he turned he did not know that the part of the video that would most make the liar of him had been deleted.

Somewhat OT since the cops played minor role - but they did enforce who owns us.

In this dash camera footage obtained via the Freedom of Information Act, we see City of Dunwoody (GA) Police Officer Juan Grullon stop a motorist for alleged improper backing in a private parking lot.

The interaction is cordial until officer Grullon repeatedly asks the motorist where he works. When the motorists inquires as to why that information is pertinant to the charge of improper backing, officer Grullon explains that there is a big difference in whether or not a citation will be issued based on whether the motorist works in Dunwoody or in Atlanta (outside the city limits).

The motorist declining to answer the question was not a practical action. It was done with the intention of protecting his rights under the 4th and 5th amendments.

The improper backing charge has been dropped by the City of Dunwoody.
