How hot does your turbo run? I took my turbo miata out for the day today and noticed it didn't like the heat today. no hard driving maybe 5 mins on the interstate and city driving and to my night class earlier. when i pulled in i popped the hood to take a look and see how everything faired today and noticed the manifold and half the turbo was glowing red
I grabbed a ir thermal gun and checked the temperature and it was around 1200 degrees

I was just wondering if it was normal after a ~25min drive and if there is anything i could do to help it.

all my lines are wrapped with thermal cloth to keep the heat away and i have a heat shield to cover the turbo but have yet to install it.

is normal ceramic caoting is the only thing that will cut the underhood temps and be a stable longterm fix.

wouldn't excess EGT be timing related?

Where the hell is Gold Hill?

I have never seen mine glowing red even after a hard run and immediately looking under the hood.

needs more timing and/or better exhaust
EGT on my car can approach 2000°F, but I've never seen anything glow, even when on the dyno for the day.

What material is your manifold made from? Mine is cast.

I have seen manifolds glow, but only after hard runs and when it is dark outside. Also, the cars I have seen it on were all running 20+ lbs of boost.

You need to check your timing.

My mani is a greddy cast

and exhaust is a brand new system with no cat

Ive checked timing, ill recheck it to see if i am wrong
