Default Adjusting Waste gate actuator

I am installing a small turbo from an Eclipse on my NA. It has the external actuator. Last night I checked the pressure (using a mighty vac) at which it started to move and it was just moving at around 10 and fully open at 15. I am not looking for that much boost. Has anybody opened one of those units up and changed the spring or do you just control it by the good old gas pedal? I am not keen on over boosting. This is not a car for racing just looking for a little more power when needed. Thanks for your comments!

(BTW I have been looking at the cool intercooler pipe (devil horns) and will be using that design with a SAAB 900 intercooler. I am moving the rad about an inch lower and have already changed location of the ac dryer unit. I will also be modifying the rad support front member to run the pipes.)

the gas pedal idea.....is a pretty horrible idea.

The stock wastegate is actually 8psi. You can lower this a tad by extending the arm a tiny fraction of a bit. Remember after going through all of the piping, you're libel to lose 1-2 psi.

Another idea may be to elongate the wastegate mounting holes and slightly reposition the wastegate so that there is very little tension on the flapper which should make it open a tad earlier.

Also remember you're going to have some exhaust pressure helping to open that wastegate when it's actually on the car and running.

use a spring to apply reverse pressur i ran into the same issue myself short of buying a new wG can that is the only way. Mine was adjustable with bolt lenght vs spring prelaod you can do a static one just as easy or easier. If you muddle with the WG mounting as the one guy suggests you will be inducing lag into the system my way introduces minimal lag and can be done for less than 10 bucks totall.

Thanks again for good advice. The extra spring to assist against the internal one seems like the best way to go and I can make it adjustable as well. I was also wondering about the pressure loss in the system so I will take that into consideration. The gas pedal control is a bad idea. I have seen some turbo charged aircraft that were overboosted on the "good" engine when one engine failed on take off, they blew the cylinders off the case but at least they got around and down. The gas pedal is much easier to put to the floor without thinking and then assploding engine!
