Thats cheep I think when I build my motor I put almost 5K in just parts and machine service I built it all my self and did the head porting. My turbo stuff was definitely cheaper than my motor.

Motor $5K

Turbo parts-
Turbo Holset HY35 $free
manifold rounding to $90
IC 31x11x3 with piping $100
BOV $70
external waste gate $60
3" down pipe and exhaust, with flex pipe $130
Injectors $200
fuel pump $100
MS $700
COPS with connectors $65
Coolant reroute $30
Radiator $150
air filter and turbo connection couplers $60 I am a Amsoil dealer so its dirt cheap for me.
LC-1 $220
Other/ boost gauge and wiring stuff $100
I have other stuff that would not be nessesary that coasts more like EBC and Knock sense and up graded 4 bar map. that are not in this price.
Im sure I am forgeting a few things in there but I only figured the things you would need not all the other stuff I just wanted to do and have done over time. $2075

Would you have spent money on that stuff if you hadn't gone turbo? Since it's stuff needed to make the build more reliable I think it should be counted.

Actually I'd also count other stuff not directly related, but that becomes a necessity because of the turbo, like clutch upgrades, beefier transmissions and bigger brakes for example. Actually I'd like to see what everyone has spend on all their mods, since I'm just starting out it'd be cool to see where I'm headed. But I guess that's better left for another thread.

I am looking at getting a 1999 or 2000 Miata and adding the following parts. The prices are for USED PARTS except for the clutch. The work would be done by me, since this is the DIY section. From what I've been reading, the components below (when tuned) should put me at 200-230whp. It is essentially a BEGI S2 kit with the S4 manifold.

How much did you guys spend on your power mods, and about where are you as far as power output goes?

4,705 Total cost

Watch the forsale section. Buy a complete kit with IC for $1000. (turbo & mani, dp, IC)

Extra's needed for 12 psi

$220 for new AEM WBO2 kit.
$550 for used management.
Free: used cookie can for break Heatsheild.
$75.00 RX-7 550cc injectors.
$375 for enthuza exhaust.
$259 ebay clutch.
$30 BOOST gauge.

Best bet is to buy a car finished.

Look at Goops car. For less than the parts you want...... you can buy........ the whole car and do nothing but tune. And drive off.

I'm sure the whole doing it on the cheap thing is awesome and all, but I usually take the cake on the cheapest build, lol I've gotten plenty of great deals and have about 3.5K in the car including the car but I have more stuff like HT, Torsen, rims, suspension and other goodies too not to many people like me for this lol... what can i say patients is a virtue, in my case collect stuff over a year and was driving the car the whole time. be patien it will save you monies in the long run for other stuff

Here's my spreadsheet of my DIY 12psi T25 turbo install. It's a balance of used parts and reliable stuff. Total cost $2400 including MS, WB, clutch, COPs, Reroute, etc. It helps having a MIG welder as well.
