Default How to estimate max horsepower by measuring an unknown turbo.

Hey guys,

Is there any general rules for estimating a turbochargers maximum horsepower output or airflow capacity if you just cant find the specs?

I have a turbocharger that Id like to build something silly with, and want to make 100% sure its not going to be just that little bit too small to actually work.

Of course Im prepared to measure everything.

Not accurately. You need the compressor map if you want to be within 100whp with any confidence.

Its tiny, so it would be hard to be off by 50 hp haha.

Its an air research T0212.

Ill try garretts website for a compressor map.

Cant find it.

Can I compare other turbochargers with very similar specs?

or will the design of the wheel throw it off by too much?

Measure wheels. That will get u ballpark. Or post a pic. Youcan tell generalllll hp capability by turbo sizw. Genrally

If you know the Max cfm flow that's a good guess at crank hp.

I know that, what I dont know is enough about it other than the stock car it came from was able to make 140-150 with it maxxed.

But that was a single cam 1.5L.

I cant measure the exducer on either wheel without removing the housings, which I need circlip pliers for.

On a quick eyeball with a tape measure Im going with 32mm on the compressor side and 34mm on the exhaust.
