Help me select a Turbo
I read the FAQ and a good number of threads. Let me try convey what I am looking for and hopefully someone can help me out.
I have a Locost thats running a 1.8 Miata engine from a 94. Has a LINK ecu on the way.
I have a pretty small nose opening so I cant run a massive IC like everyone here apears to be able to. (I do think I may run 2 small IC's in the side pods but was concerned with pressure drop)
I also dont have tons of space to install the turbo. Its going to be awefully close to my brake system so that makes me think heatshield and maybe Water cooled turbo ?
My goals are simple.
250 rwHP+ above 4000RPM.
I will probably start running E85 when turboed.
I have a stock bottom end, If it dies I will probably add pistons and rods to new block.
I would like smooth power since I already have traction problems
Not sure if I missed anything here but I can add if needed.

I've ridden in a Birkin (Lotus 7 copy) and understand your traction problem will be your primary concern. How you expect to control or use 250+whp in that is beyond me. With a stock 1.8 at ~100whp you are already having traction/control issues and since my ride along in one, I believe it.
You will need to stay with a small turbo to keep the power onset as smooth as possible. A gt2554r or maybe a gt2560r (like the one in the for sale section for $400) would be a good match. If you get an efficient 2560 and can keep it working in the most efficient part of the compressor map, you might get close to those goals.
The problem is going over ~230whp typically (but not always) puts you into turbos that come into boost onset more abruptly. There are ways to mitigate that effect a little if you decide to chance it with a gt2860rs or gt2871r, but in a 1200lb car, I wouldn't do it.
As for intercoolers, they come in all shapes and sizes. Look into getting one that is not as tall or as wide but much thicker to give you the necessary surface area and still fit in the nose. Don't overlook water injection as a supplement.

Obviously the 2560 I don't think you could keep a 2554 cool enough to run for very long.

We installed a PWR barrel on an imported Toyota Starlet and it was ridiculous. It was a cool night, but the thing was actually creating condensation on the outside of the charge pipe near the throttle body...

Basically what I am thinking.
for the iC ( Turbo Water to Air Intercooler Long Flow, 14.5"x5"x4.5" : eBay Motors (item 130320030477 end time Mar-17-10 18:22:38 PDT) ) and the pump i was thinking the ford version from the lightning ($60)
Still trying to make my own intake manifold to make this work
