Well I got the black paint off the turbo today. Everything seems good on it. There is no shaft excursion but there seems to be a little side to side play. The wheel spins VERY freely. Is some play normal? I believe that the turbo is claimed to have 8k on it.

Some side-side shaft play is normal. You have a journal bearing turbo which uses a layer of oil between the bearing and shaft so some shaft play is of course required. Even after a full rebuild there is a tiny tiny bit of shaft play.

mine's got it and it spins forever after the engine is shut off - you need some tolerance with a journal bearing

fantastic that is what I assumed thanks people!! Looks like Voodoo box will be here this month and I just won an auction for a Sparco Evo seat, 350 bucks!!!!!

hey cjernigan, if you go t3 route, I'll take that downpipe off your hands lol.
has anyone ever thought of any other ways of controlling timing on an nb, i was looking at the msd ignition boxes earlier today, but i guess ms would be the way to go
