Default turbo question

ok so i have been searching and have had not much luck. td04-12t-8.5 anyone used this turbo is it good for a junkyard turbo does it suck. the goal mis to put it on a ms2, blueprinted "stock" motor build with a hopes of 250ish hp. will this turbo spool quick and last through the rpm range? it is comming off a 2001 volvo s4. . any info on flow or psi would be great

Any particular reason for wanting to run that turbo other than you probably having access to one for cheap? If not, don't reinvent the wheel if you're trying to be cheap. Run a stupid cheap T25, and enjoy not having to have to pay a lot of money for fabrication.

Flow on that turbo can be estimated by measuring the ID of the compressor inlet then look at Garrett Turbos. Bring up he specs, and find the Inducer Bore closest to what you measured and then read the flow map.

I think that the 12t is too small for your 250'ish goal. Compressor maps seem to be well hidden for this turbo but as Corky pointed out the inducer bore is a good indication.

The 12t compressor wheel inducer measures at 39mm. This probably corresponds to a flow of around 350 cfm as a 13t wheel with a 41mm inducer is rated at 400 cfm.

Interestingly, the s40 Volvo turbo also came with a twin scroll 8.5 cm2 housing. I plan to try one but with an upgraded 19t compressor wheel.

Thats sounds like a pretty crazy fun 280hp turbo.

But will it pass the techsalvager test by making full boost at 1800rpm?

Probably not, the td04-13t with the smaller but single scroll turbine housing doesnt even do that on my 2.5 wrx. I'm assuming the 8.4cm twin scroll is going to spool about the same as the 6cm single scroll but be less restrictive up top.

What size is the MSM inducer? Sounds close.
