I have purchased turbos before but not for Miatas, I have had a 99 Civic Si with a T3/T4oE and after that I had a Twinturboed 350Z with two 18Gs and now I have a 2004 Forester XT Subaru with a 20G and wanted to see if anyone would suggest a type of Turbo kit to go with for a NB 99 Miata. Thanks in advance??

I am leaning toward the Turbo Specialties Kits beacuse of price and also I am planning on using a E-manage Ultimate to control fuel etc. Or would it be better to piece it together and make a DIY kit??

Also what should I go with??

T3
etc?

Most of the kits come with a T25 or maybe something a little bigger I am not wanting to get crazy just enough to break the car loose and go sideways....LOL I am sure it would be ok to go with T25 or T25BB to get sufficient power for this??

Flyin' Miata kits are still unavailable.

TSI kits seem to be really cheap, I've only heard of people researching them and then deciding against them. There isn't a lot of info about them. They are a pretty basic kit if you don't get the kit with the intercooler setup. Pretty much an equivalant to a 1.6 Greddy kit. No BOV, IC, utilizes the stock crossover pipe.

AVO kits I think were only for the 1.6 and are out of production.

I'd go with a BEGi kit. Corky Bell (author of Maximum Boost) designed these kits. BEGi is his company. The older FM kits were his creation as well, but he has split from FM and both have started new kits. His are done and available now. You are getting top notch stuff here when getting a BEGi kit. The series 1 would be a great place to start. You're getting a BB turbo, intercooler, BEGi AFPR, divorced wategate downpipe, BOV, all the hardware, even a boost gauge!

I am one of the products of research into the TSI kit and deciding against them. Sure enough, the price is appealing, but NO where is there any kind of reference of anyone actually using the kit, let alone numbers/results. Finally, their product support doesnt seem to be very helpful at providing these numbers.

I have been leaning toward the TSI kits but I really am impressed with the BEGI kits they are the only kits I have found to come with a BB turbo on all applications..

I am thinking about Stage 3 with an e-manage although I would love to get the emerald ecu if I could.

Corky is having really good sucess with the Xede. It's plug and pluy and even your mom could tune it.

spoke with Stephanie at BEGI and she has sent me a quote for a Stage 3 is a T28BB with intercooler number 2 and Xede injectors and wire harness. So it seems I may be going with BEGI and I should be able to get 240 to the wheels with this setup per Steph. I will have to see how fast I can get these mods it seems the lead time for the kit is 2 weeks so keep an eye out I will also be changing strut bars sway bars, wheels and coilovers on the NB here shortly. Oh yeah and maybe a clutch...LOL

Man, if you're impressed just by the fact BEGi uses a ball-bearing turbo, wait until you see how well the kit is designd and fabricated (ball-bearings in turbo cartridges have enjoyed the fruits of repetitive marketing since they came on the scene).

because they offer them in all of there kits, none of the other kits designed for the Miata have BB turbos in them except for the BEGI kits and they all come with BB turbos, I am aware how long the BB turbos have been on the market, I am just impressed that they offer the turbos on everyone of there kits. the FM kits are not done as of yet so I was not sure what was included in their kits the NB kit from AVO just says it is a Garrett S Type, so thus again not specific and I am not sure about BRP who is this?

If you're planning on buying a turbo kit tomorrow, though, I guess my point is moot, as all the other turbo kit vendors are in a state of flux at the moment. www.racingmazda.com also sells kits, although they're having issues delivering product at the moment, and I don't know if they use ball-bearing turbochargers, if that's important to you (they do sell a ~$2,200 kit that looks worlds better than the base Greddy kit, and can be stepped up to their high-end kits in increments).

Yeah, forgot about the Corksport kit. As I recall, it uses a laughable downpipe, much like the Greddy's, in that it connects to the stock bottom-half of the downpipe.

Yeah, BRP was, I thought, redesigning parts of their kit, but maybe they're not even selling it anymore. They've always held down the supercharger aftermarket first and foremost, though.

i went to BRP last summer and met a buddy there. he was purchasing a lower from them. brant is the most knowledgeable guy you would ever meet. genuinely intelligent and friendly, he knows the engineering of his products and the cars they bolt to inside and out. the shop is nothing special to see, but talking with him was a great experience.

while we were there, he let us each try out his club sport fitted with the turbo system they sell. it is very nice and very simple. gt25r puffs the air into the engine. as a daily driver, it would be perfect. it reminded me of the HKS system on joe alphonso's car (r*speed owner).

will be a weekend roadster so it will be decked out and hopefully pushing 240Hp to the wheels we shall see once I figure out what Kit I am interested in I am still leaning toward the BEGI and the price is good for kit and engine managment, and it also compensates for weather, altitude etc... Stephanie was quite convincing about the kit and it looks like a professional install when it is all done, 14 hours is not to back of an install and then you can go have fun. It took me about that long to install my Civic kit so it should take me a weekend to get it done once I have the kit etc.

Also since I am new to Miatas what Clutch would you gentlemen suggest I see we have a few to choose from:

RPS
ACT
Exedy
Clutchmasters
etc

I have had an act 6 puck unsprung in my Civic (Bad Idea), an RPS turbo max 6 puck sprung in my 350Z (Very decent clutch held power and no real harsh) so I know what they will feel like pedal wise but not sure how they will make the car feel.

Any info is appreciated.
