OK. So I connected the ignitor again and let it turn over until I saw oil pressure then shut it off. I disconnected the feed line and checked for oil and it came out, checked the drain line and it came out. Not a ton, but it came out.

The turbo is instantly hot as ****. I'm worried that for some reason there's an oil issue and maybe that's what fried it before.

Your turbo got hot without the engine firing?

No, I meant once it was running the heat wrap **** started smoking within 30-45 seconds. The turbo was instantly "hot as ****" as well.

I think everything is a go, its just been so god damn long since I fucked with the car that I'm having a hard time remembering whats what.

So I just let it run for 20 mins and its running smooth, no leaks, good oil pressure, etc. I added a can of BG #111 and put the rest of the 5 gallons of 93 in it. I'm going to let it run for another 10-15 mins and take it up the road to the liquor store.

I'm nervous.

Well, I drove it. God I miss this ******* car. Past the liquor store there's a corner that you would normally take at maybe 15-20mph while applying the brakes, I went around the thing going probably 35-40mph and had my foot on the gas! It just wants to go and it sounds soooo good!

Only thing that has me nervous is the amount of smoke out the exhaust. I'm not sure if there's still oil from when the turbo **** the bed last year, plus moisture/condensation from sitting for so long. Not sure whats "normal" after a cars been sitting so long.

The bodyshop guy next door came over and took a look at it and he said we'll wetsand and patch fix a couple spots and then I'm gonna have the detail guy I sell stuff for buff it for me. He said it should come out **** when its done.

Tomorrow I'm going to concentrate on getting the interior back together and the bodyshop guy has someone coming down to take a look at it for me. Just to make sure everything is good to go. Never hurts to have a second set of eyes look it over I guess.

Almost there!! Again!! lol

Nice, good to hear man. Header wrap will smoke for a while and it should start rite after the car is started. Seeing how you don't have a method of measuring the exhaust temps I wouldn't worry about the temperature too much. I mean my car will get up to 500 degrees with a quickness and to me that is hot as **** but to the turbo that ain't **** seeing how it gets up to 1500 degrees.

If your worried about the smoke do a leakdown test...maybe pull the downpipe off and see if any oil is getting in there.

Well I just spent an hour down at the detail shop and my buddy helped me get the hood cleaned up pretty good. We still have to swap the hood pins, though I'm not sure if I'll get to those tonight.

The interior is back together and I just put insurance back on it so I'll be driving it home tonight!! Its far from finished in my eyes, but everyone keeps giving me **** and telling me to drive the damn thing so I'm taking their advice.

The detail guy said that next week I can bring it down and give it a full wash and wax using his stuff. The bodyshop guy is also gonna give me a hand with the couple loose ends I have.

So hopefully by next weekend the car will be at 100%. Tonight I'm gonna take it home but I'm nervous to drive it. It keeps overheating and I'm not sure why. I think its got an air pocket but I've tried everything I could to get rid of it and it still is getting up there on the temp gauge.

Thanks man! There's still plenty of spiders crawling around inside and it smells damp as hell, but I hope to have it cleaned up by the weekend.

I actually didnt take it out of the shop this weekend in fear that something would happen. Yesterday I checked everything one last time and let it run a couple times to see if it would overheat again. All seemed well so far, still have to re-calibrate the LC1 and check my AFR though.

This morning I took it up to the Cadillac dealership instead of the taurus and god damn did I miss this car!! By the time I drove up there, talked with the guy and drove back I was a sweaty mess. lol

On the way back a kid in a GTI was in front of me and I could tell he had more done than just a stock GTI, so I took the bait and maneuvered around him like it was nothing. We both got a red light and he was behind me so when it turned green I gave it a little extra "umph". Needless to say I was way faster, but I wasn't giving him all I had. At best I was giving him half, maybe a bit more. He flew by once I got over and gave me the thumbs up.

Its nice to have my toy back. I just cant wait to actually have 100% faith in the thing and really rip on it.

Last night was the first time I took the car home. The morning commute was SO much better in this car. I'm no longer at everyone else's mercy! I can ******* whip around the idiots going 55 in the passing lane like their sitting still. Absolutely the best anger management I could ever think of. lol

Last night and this morning the car was fine, no issues to speak of. I took it to the bank and drove about 20 miles north to meet a guy and drop of his money. He wasn't there so I was talking to his wife and I let the car idle (timer) to cool down. I went back to the car and son of a bitch it was pegged at H! Instant steam shooting out of my makeshift coolant overflow and coolant all over the ground. I turned off the motor but kept the fans on for like 15 mins until it cooled down. Then I started it back up and drove to the shop keeping an eye on the temp. Which never went over the half way make, even when I get back here and watched it idle for 3 mins.

Do you guys think its possible my thermostat is sticking? I put a new one in a few years back, but then again the car did sit for over a year.

Are you sure you bled the system well enough? Could of had an air bubble hit the sensor. I'd do the simple stuff first in this order, or just do it all at once and rule it all out.
1. Bleed air
2. New rad cap
3. Thermostat

In all the years I've owned this car there was never an issue with it overheating. I could sit in traffic all day long and the **** would never go beyond the halfway mark.

I just flushed the radiator, put in a new thermostat (195) and even put the OEM coolant overflow back in. I double and triple checked everything and filled it up with coolant. Started it up and let it warm up. For a minute it seemed like everything was going to be ok, but I didnt hear the thermostat open so I waited. Well it ******* went right up to H like it has been.

The thermostat didnt open once, nor did the fans come on. I guess I'll take the laptop out and see if I can change any settings with MS.

This is ******* killing my day. I allotted the morning to the miata and then I was going to get back to painting. Its going on 2 and I'm still ******* around with this.

Ok. So I'm sitting in the car right now and I have the computer hooked up to the MSPNP and they see each other. Its telling me the coolant temp is 215, but I don't know if that's accurate or not. On the actual gauge its about 3/4 of the way.

I see that output 4 is for fans, but its not letting me do anything with the settings. The fans were working yesterday, so I don't know why all of a sudden they aren't.

Stop ******* around with it man, a tstat is cheep. Replace it and see if that fixes the problem which I am willing to bet it will. If that doesn't fix it then I would say water pump.

I just put the new thermostat in a hour ago. I went through the entire cooling system minus the waterpump, which I replaced when I did the timing belt when I first bought the car.

I figured I'd take a smoke break to relax then try again and I just got a mouthful of coolant.

**** this. I'm just gonna enjoy the weather outside and paint till its dark.

The car wins again. lol

Well I'm not sure what the deal was. Maybe it had air in the system.

I just ran it for 30 mins with no overheating. I fucked around with the wires going to the fans and they came on, so it seems I should investigate further and solder the connections once and for all.

Going to take a chance and take it home tonight. Hopefully its good to go. lol
