Burping a newly filled system wasn't the first thing you did?

Trust me man, I went over the entire cooling system 3 times.

I think I may have found the problem though. The wires between the 2 fans were loose and when I touched them the fans would go on/off. I just redid the wires and all seems well again.

Now I have a new problem. The fans are on 24/7 and I'm afraid I'll burn them up at this rate. I checked MS and the settings for the fan output are 180/on and 150/off. The gauge in MS also was reading 207-211 deg when the temp gauge in the cluster was reading just under the halfway mark.

I think it should be more like 200 on 195 off? 205-210 is about what I run at too, pretty sure thats normal?

Well I just drove the car home from the shop and it overheated again!!

**** this is driving me crazy!!

I never had a problem with the car overheating before and I've tried everything I could think of short of putting in a new waterpump to try and fix the issue.

You keep saying you went over the cooling system but what does that mean? like checking for leaks? did you actually burp the air out?

New thermostat
Flushed the radiator
Put back in the OEM coolant overflow tank
Re-filled and checked everything for leaks time and time again
Checked the fans and re-did the wires to insure they're coming on

I thought when burping the system you leave the rad cap off until the thermostat opens, then add coolant to top it off and put the cap back on. No?

Maybe it still has air in it but this would be the 3rd time just on this car I've drained and re-filled the radiator and I never had any issues before.

Clogged waterjackets in the block? Do a supper flush. They sell this crazy costic chemical that will really clean your system out. And or have you ever used stop leak? That stuff is all bad news. Also feel the lines if one feels like low pressure like it doesn't have 16 psi or the hose is colapsed you have a restriction somewhere thus causing low/no flow causing you to overheat. Check the lines going to the heater core as well. My Ms says I'm running hot also, I am told it is a temp sensor before the radiator b.c my temp gauge in the car reads aprox 160-170 but like I said, I am told. And is your only data for your data the ms reading or is the gauge in your car hot too?

Yes, when burping, but have the heat on full blast that opens the ____ valve to allow flow throught the heater core or you get stuck w/ a bubble

Never used stop leak or anything like that. When the MS says 207-211 deg the gauge in the car was reading halfway like normal. Then on the ride home there was a little bit of stop and go traffic and it shot right up.

I just went out to burp it again and seen a leak by the passenger headlight. Somehow the overflow line was crimped against the sharp metal headlight bracket and made a tiny hole in the line. It also looks like the waterneck was leaking too.

This is like a ******* nightmare! With any car, truck or motor in general I've never had issues with coolant leaks or overheating. This is starting to really **** me off!!

It sounds to me like your cooling system is really feeling the 90's and given that it sat for a minute I would do a pressure test on your cars cooling system. I'm sure you will have a few failed components. And don't trip **** happens, but if you decide to sell your car I want your hard top, my rag is feeling the 90's lol do not exceed the psi printed on your Rad cap you'll really be pissed when you have to repair a blown heater core line ^_^

Thanks man. I have a tendency to get pissed super quick, but usually it ends up working out an hour later.

Luckily I still had some silicone line left and I was able to replace the line that had the hole in it. I also tightened the bolts on the waterneck, I'm not sure why they were loose but they were.

The car was still too hot to take off the cap so I'm going to just take it tonight anyways and keep an eye on the temp gauge.

I just spent the last hour washing it and organizing the toolbox I keep in the trunk. Its been so long with this car that its probably gonna take another month or two to get everything back to DD status. If it keeps ******* with me I'm gonna start it for $1 with no reserve on eBay.

I use this funnel now whenever I need to burp a coolant system.

When you burped the system before did you have the front of the car jacked up as high as possible?

I burp like you said, but then after some driving, it'll occasionally start to over heat. I watch it like a hawk, and at the first sign of this, I stop and let it cool down a bit and take the cap off with a rag. It'll spill a bit, but it'll burp the rest of the way. Enough to solve the problem at least.

1909, I don't think we have a heater valve. Coolant is constantly going through the heater core, the cold/hot slider on the HVAC system just opens and closes a flap on the heater core box, thus letting the blower blow air past it. If I remember correctly that is.

Jack up the front? I never heard of doing that before. Does it help get the air out the first time around?

I drove it tonight and let it idle for 5 minutes when I got home and it was solid. Stayed right in the middle and drove like a champ. Hopefully this is the end of the over heating bullshit.

Now I need to figure out what to do about the Tial BOV. The ****** has a high pitch squeal to it when its opening or closing. I have a feeling that sitting for so long hasn't been great for that either. Not to mention the vented hood lets water dump all over the thing.

By jacking up the front of the car you are making the radiator the highest point. So water will tend to flow towards the back of the engine and force all the air bubbles out. The funnel I posted is the same principle of that it creates the highest point of water to force air out.

My Tial BOV is reasonably quite. Braineack never bitched about how loud it was.

Yeah my forge bov is the same ****...sounds like a shitty arcade game move sound. I'm thinking of porting every other hole with eachother to open up more room for venting like the tials.

I get that "schchchchchch" surge under light driving and more of a "swoooosh" sound with volume dependant on the amount of boost.

This particular sound I'm talking about is something I'd expect to hear due to rust or dirt in the cylinder of the BOV. I'm thinking about taking it apart and giving it a cleaning.

So does anyone have any idea what I should do about the fans? Just with the ign on they pop on full bore.

do the fans come on even if the car is cold? If its hot they should still come on but if its cold somethings wrong. I think your on/off temps are too low either way.

Look under the hood at the fuse blck. Find the fan relayit may be shorted closed all the time. Check for resistance. They shkuldent be on all the time. Ifthe relay is good and you can hear it click when you put 12v to it then check out the temp sensor. They may be a test procedure for the temp sensor. Are you still overheating in bstop and go trafic? Or the easy thing that is overlooked is blockage in front of thee radiator if youbcant get airflow across-througb the Rad it can yeild similar prkblemslook for debris and leafs

Edit: And or some one may have wired the fans to be on all the time. Check if the fans have forign wired running to them.

Don't post again 3 minutes after, just edit your post ~curly
