Default More power but still very reliable?

Hi guys,

I'm dropping a clean 70k mile 1.6 drivetrain in my '66 datsun roadster. I'd like to add a turbo/ intercooler to the setup.

Without replacing internals, is this safe to do? What size turbo do you recommend? Brands? Intercoolers? Advice?

Thanks for any info, it's much needed

After you've made everything fit with the cheap 1.6 mock-up block build the internals in an 01-05 1.8 block and swap that in.

What we're really saying is that this has been asked 1x10^6 times and answered 1x10^4 times. Do just a bit of searching first. Look at stickies. Look at build threads for what others have done.

I think your car is really cool.

So, I take it, the answer is " you silly noob, you aren't just showing your ridiculous excuse for logic by just slapping a turbo on your motor with no internals, and then asking us if its a quality idea....I mean, c'mon, you're swapping a motor into a classic Japanese car, at least put half an effort here. "

Well you're right. Thanks guys.

I'm not going 1.8. So what are some of the initial modifications I can do to strengthen the 1.6 and get it ready ?
Search, I'll give the short version. Stock internals are good for ~250hp on either the 1.6 or 1.8, 1.6's suck for making power.

What is the particular reason you would rather use a 1.6 over a 1.8? Physical size difference is negligible, yet the superiority of the 1.8 is well documented in terms of parts availability and power delivery.

Edit: I see you already have the 1.6. That's good enough reason I guess.

Thanks man, I love it. First car I ever fell in love with.

There isn't anything wrong with putting a 1.6 in it.

Ah, too bad you dont want to run a 1.8. The 01-05 1.8 with bolt ons and a tune will be in that neighborhood for power, and at a lot cheaper than a good turbo setup.

I read your post before you edited it.

I was obviously trolling, but thank you for taking the time to briefly break it down for us.

Now check this out: Imagine having to do that like 10 times a day every day. And that after you've already done it in hundreds of threads all of which are at the noobs disposal, the information is all there, and people took tremendous amounts of time to put it all together.

Wouldn't you utterly despise lazy a-holes that ask insanely idiotic questions like "guyths can you show me everything I need to do and hold my hand?" and don't take the 10 minutes it takes to dig up the info?

Now you know how it feels.

Good luck with your swap, I seriously hope you pull it off because I really like your datsun roadster.
