Maple Grove Dragway 6/11/10 results
So I took my car for a beat session at the local drag strip on Friday night. The specs for my car are in my signature. This thread could also be titled "How to break-in a Brand New FM Clutch". I made 5 passes total for the night, pass #4 I went from 2nd gear and put it right into 5th, said oh ****, put it into 3rd and I still managed to run a 14.5 . My best time for the night was only a 13.9, but I'm happy with that considering my car was running off the charts rich for any boost over 8psi. I also didn't get my EBC set up correctly. When I would launch the car in 1st, it would peak at just over 14psi, then the rest of the way down the track it would fluxuate between 7 and 11 psi. I know if I would get the EBC perfected and I would hit 12-14 psi the whole way down, I'd be running a low 13 for sure. Maybe even a 12.9? Either way I look at it I'm pleased considering the last time I ran at maple grove my car was stock minus cat and a/c and I ran a 16.09 at 84 mph.
So here's my timeslip and datalog from my 3rd run. I was lined up with an '01 Mustang Cobra with a Procharger. This was also my best 60' of the day.

Thanks. Tired ain't the word for it. It takes a quart of oil every 1000 miles, the compression numbers are low, and it has 144,000 miles on it. It gets me back and forth to work everyday though, and is a blast to drive. I keep getting the crave to put a bigger turbo on it and do all this **** to it, but I'm 95% certain that I'm done right now. It's fast enough, I mean it went from 16.09 to 13.9, and I actually improved on mpg's, and I drive it every single day. I just can't afford to dump a whole lot of money into it to make it stupid fast and most likely undesirable as a commuter car.

I finally got around to posting this on youtube. At the end of the video the announcer says what sounds like 13.06 and 14.70? I'm not sure what he was smoking, because when I came around to get my timeslip, the dude in the booth told me if I wanted to run again I'd need a helmet. I think you need a helmet for a convertible if you run 13.99 or quicker.

I tree mustangs all day long like it's goin out of style! Seriously though, it was a fun night, I would've liked to beat that guy since he had a dohc v8 with a procharger, but I just couldn't cut it averaging 9 psi on a tiny T25.

Hints: If you're running drag radials or plain jane street tires like I was, don't drive in the water box and do a huge burnout. Cut across in front of it, and then while rolling do a small burnout just enough to clean the tires. That's what I did, and I staged maybe at like 3500RPM and dumped the clutch on the yellow staging light before green. Try to get a 60' close to a 2.02 and if your Miata makes about 225hp, you should hit low 13's EASILY.
I have no idea how they pick the line-up. My lane consisted of Me, a '91 MR2 Turbo, a '99ish LS1 Vette, a '01ish Cobra with an intercooled Procharger, a VW GTI 1.8T, '00 Honda Civic Si Turbo, you get the picture...lanes 1-4 are pretty much a mix of ****. It wasn't a "try to beat this guy" night, it was more of a "beat the snot outta your car and see what it can do and if you're lined up with that guy, tuff ****" night.
Oh yeah...DON'T FORGET YOUR HELMET.
