Default emanage part question

I can get a emb for cheap. This is the basic kit and the guy said all I need is the harness for the car and emanage tools. It is brand new and only thing wrong is it is it has scratches on emanage box. Is this worh $200?

It depends on how far you want to take it. After you add on the other usual upgrades it isn't so cheap, but not all that bad. Usually added is an o2 clamp, pressure switch and a MAP sensor. If you can get those for cheap then it looks good.

So is it a good deal? I mean is it something I won't lose money on if I don't want it?

It's hard to recommend the EMB really. Imagine for a second you buy it, and do the usual upgrades. Your looking in the neighborhood of $275-300. You can get a Megasquirt setup for just a tad bit more, and you will be much better off.

That said, if the EMB is the route you want to take, it seems like a decent price. It's hard to say if you will or will not lose money, you can only get what someone will pay. At $200 though I think you could get that much back.

Think long and hard about your goals. EMB seemed like a great deal to me too... I'm kinda wishing I had gone a different route now, but I'm learning a lot. MAP sensor is really important to have and will cost you around $100. You absolutely have to have the support tool to use the EMB - if you get it legit it's $50-100. Unless you're brave enough to hack your harness, you might want a boomslang or equivalent for $150-200. If you're pushing more than 170hp you're going to want to go with bigger injectors, figure $125 for used injectors and a quality cleaning. You see what's happening here, the 'cheep' emb is nickle and diming you after a while. You will probably find out that you have an emanage that doesn't have that great of technical support (especially since the great archive delete disaster that happened literally the week after I bought my emb) for just a couple bills less than a megasquirt plug in play which will save your harness and has much more potential. Just telling it like it is, from personal experience. If you want 180hp or less, i recommend Bipes and begi fmu. You won't need a special harness, bigger fuel pump, or bigger injectors. If you're going for more power than that, you might just want to save up and get the PNP. But hey, it's your time and money.
