VTCS Removal on 2001 Miata Engine
After reading a number of archive discussions and studying the shop manual I've decided to remove the VTCS hardware from my '01 engine inlet plenum. I'm using the engine in my Locost (Lotus replica). I plan to remove the control valve for the VTCS butterflies and also the butterflies themselves plus the control shaft attaching all four butterflies together. I plan to seal the inlet hole for the shaft, but was wondering if it is really necessary to seal the shaft holes located between the four inlets? I guess to be complete they should be sealed to provide separation for all four inlets. Am I right or is it really not necessary.
Anyone else have experience removing this Variable Tumble Control System?

VTCS or VICS?
Am I wrong but we're talking about two separate functions?

In that thread I was referring more to the vics, but I was researching both.
In the end that was my conclusion, and my stock 01 mani is staying that way til it comes out for a honda unit. Just my .02 though, not saying its fact.
If you do gut it though, please try to get some cold hard data for us. So far 99% of the "gains" people claimed are inconclusive.

I'm questioning the power gains to be had by removing a butterfly valve in full open position.
I doubt you'd gain more than 1-2hp, if that. Which means its pointless.
The very few dyno plots I've seen showing intact vtcs vs gutted showed no gains, and one showed a loss in power. Besides, 2hp can easily be attributed to variance between dyno pulls which makes it completely useless.
I'm more than open to being proven wrong though. I just recently started looking into this whole topic.
