Default Swap Question

I have a 01 miata of course and I was wondering what it would entail to put a 99 or 94-97 1.8 in the car? I am looking at buying a motor and building it on the side and the ones I am looking at are the 99 and 94-97 1.8's so I was wondering what's different as far as getting the car mounted in and running would be? Any help would be appreciated thanks!

It's because you don't search and you type like someone in 5th grade grammar class. Except worse. And now you're acting like an ***. Do yourself a favor and search, if you don't find the answer come back, ask the question, and type in a manner that isn't filled with run-on sentences and missing punctuation.

Run-on sentences or not my post was very clear. There are ample threads on here about putting a nb motor in a na but no thread about the opposite. So that is in fact why I was asking! Now I have been lurking and reading for quite sometime and I have searched and found nothing. So when I see 26 people have viewed the thread that makes me think WTF? I can't find it in a search and no one can answer, is this something no one's ever done? I would rather have someone say I have no clue then just to look at it or to jump ones case because he doesn't like run- on sentences.

Why not just buy all the parts you need, and build your 01 vvt engine? It will save you money right from the start. Your car might go down for a few days, maybe a week. But hell you can rent a car for a week for much less than you can buy an engine.

The block itself is the same. You question is kinda pointless given that if you're going to "build" and engine, then the year of the block is null and void. Head matters though, but I'll assume that you'd be swapping you current head onto a "built" engine.

Well see I plan on getting one of these motors and building it on the side and whenever it gets done it gets done. From all my research I see that the 99 head is the best flowing and that would be the one I would put on the car unless I buy a 99 motor. I cant have my car down for a couple days so that is in fact why I would want to get another motor and build it. Plus with having to pull the motor then build it will just take to much time. If the block is the same then that answers my question.

why not run the vvt head? Try and find a used 94-95 block. They can be had pretty cheap and already have the oil port on the exhaust side.
